I should have put money on  ?? to win! I said to my husband in about week 3 that she was one to watch. Mat's final dress was amazing, but, easier (in a way) because he didn't have to fit it to a bust! I could see it being adapted for a female figure though! Nicole, as always got too stressy, but fabulous carnival costume. Clare's made to measure was stunning! As Esme and Patrick said the simpler the design the harder to pull off. Or words to that effect! I haven't see & Juliet (apart from WoS Awards), but the sewing table Mat was sat at looked a bit out like it could have been from that, maybe? |

It was a rather underwhelming final for me
The pattern challenge didn't involve a pattern - it was a 'set of instructions' challenge (and very much the sort of thing that Clare would love)
The transformation challenge was all about embellishment - which is what Nicole did all season
The final frock was clearly won by Matt - he met the brief and created something truly original. Clare did a good job but it really wasn't a cut-out element - and there was a lot of puckering around her small opening. And Nicole just went to pieces - she did not take on board any of the learning opportunities that the previous week of dealing with heavily embellished fabric presented to her.
Garment of the series for me went to Matt - it really was a piece of couture. Plus it was great to see drag as part of the final
Very few from Sewing Bee go on to have much of a public profile - the only one I can think of works for Create and Craft selling quilting stuff!

If Matt had learnt from last weeks transformation challenger he could have won. Last week not enough junk used, and then not enough embellishments in the final.
I loved Nicole’s final dress, even if it wasn’t finished. I did think Matt not having to fit for a bust was a cop out, though I suppose there was nothing to stop the women using male models either.
I’d like to see them change the final and have them make three outfits, man, woman and child and be judged on the collection.

oxfordsimon I think they deliberately picked the challenges to suit one of the contestants each, and then judged them on how well they did in their less strong categories. So you kind of have to ignore Clare's kilt, Nicole's carnival outfit, and Matt's made to measure. If one of them had either had an out-and-out disaster or performed unexpectedly well in their weaker challenge it would have been a more exciting final - but they all played to form. I bet the judges could have guessed who'd made what in all three of the challenges! But to be honest, I'm not watching sewing bee for excitement. And I don't think anyone really goes on it expecting to turn into a TV star.

I wasn't suggesting that people went on it for fame or TV exposure - it is just harder to see how they can make the most out of winning a show like this (same goes for Pottery showdown) compared to Masterchef/Bake Off.
We have plenty of TV food spots - but crafting (whether soft or hard) is far less prominent even though millions of people are engaged in crafting on a daily basis.
That is slowly changing - and it is true that sewing/throwing is not as easily televisual as cooking - it is just a shame that we have yet to celebrate crafting as much as we should.

Yes i agree, a collection would be terrific, so maybe a challenge over tow days? Similar to the sewing /design progs from US which are more directly linked to the fashion industry. But it didn't come down to the last garment cos Claire had been consistently good. But I would love to see Matt design more for men and women. |

I loved how Matt's dress sat on the hips, gave it some real drama - fitted to waist wouldn't have given it the same oomph. Nicole was - as she herself admitted - an instinctive sewer rather than precise and measured. Although her finale dress was beautiful not sewing the feather trim fully was a cop-out, and it didn't fully fit, either needed extra structure or a bit more flowing, hit her mates body in different places. I rooted for Claire from the start, no thrills, spills, excitement with her but she's obviously serious about the work she produces, the red dress was slinky but I preferred her afternoon tea dress for style - and garment of the series for me would be Matt's afternoon tea dress, from the first episode - www.lovesewingmag.co.uk/great-british-sewing-bee-series-6/item/terrific-tea-dresses-make-the-patterns-from-gbsb6-sewing-bee-episode-1/ Look at the inset puff sleeves, clever pattern matching, pretty collar, beautifully set skirt. |

Claire’s model needed some foundation garments. Regardless of the sewing in that evening gown the look wasn’t very flattering. She was the most consistent throughout so a worthy winner out of the three.

Rewatching it on Saturday afternoon they go through what each sewer has done since the series finished in the order they were eliminated. I'm now peeved to see they have shown Matt then Nicole and finally Clare ... Pfffff.
I think my issue with Nicole, why I was uncomfortable watching her, is that she was supremely confident which for a Brit feels weird. I like my contestants with a chunk of self doubt and self deprecation.
