Pericles - Public Arts at the National Theatre
Sadly Members only
Public Acts is the National Theatreβs nationwide initiative to create extraordinary acts of theatre and community. Next week should have seen us celebrating the premiere of our third Public Acts production, The Caucasian Chalk Circle, in Doncaster. Sadly, performances have been postponed until 2021 due to the Coronavirus pandemic.
However, to mark the occasion, we wanted to give you the opportunity to experience the brilliance of this programme with a special opportunity to watch Pericles online from Wednesday 2 September until the weekend.
If you are a member, was a highlight a few years ago, put your reservation about watching streams aside, this will put a massive smile on your face, the energy and pleasure of the amateurs was infectious (in a good way)

One of my favourite ever TV dramas Coming Down The Mountain is on Amazon Prime. Written by Mark Haddon (who wrote The Curious Incident of the Dog In The Night Time), it's about two teenage brothers, one of whom has Down's Syndrome, and the resentment this creates in the other brother. But unlike a lot of dramas of this ilk, it isn't trying to be 'worthy' or preaching about the condition, it is full of dark humour, and Tommy Jessop gives an amazing performance.

The website stream.theatre just won't load for me, all I'm getting is a blank white page saying "loading" at the bottom. Is it only me or do others have the same problem? I'm using Google Chrome, so I doubt it can be a browser problem...

I never knew Peter O' Toole had any of his stage performances filmed. I just discovered Jeffrey Bernard Is Unwell on YouTube:

Got to say the Sharon D Clarke stream the other evening was brilliant. Really high production value, in a stunning setting and a nice selection of tunes not limited to the Musical Theatre catalogue. But now another company have popped up streaming compilation shows on a Friday night. www.whatsonstage.com/shows/internet-theatre/the-theatre-channel-episode-1_234317I know it's 'Show Business' but don't know why they're all fighting for the same Friday night spot. It'll do more damage in the long term as it's over saturating an already small market. Would be nice to see some other talent recognized other than Carrie Hope Fletcher et al.

It's years since I've seen it and it may not have aged well, but Drowning By Numbers, with an excellent cast, is on All4 for another couple of days.

Tiffany Graves and Issy van Randwyck are live streaming their Crazy Coqs gig on Wednesday 28th October. If you buy a ticket for that the show is available to watch for the next 48 hours, I believe, so you don't have to watch it live if the time is inconvenient.

TallPaul There's a couple of singers I like in the line-up. I'll probably skip through it afterwards rather than watch live so I can just listen to the bits I want rather than having to sit through things like a sitar concerto which aren't at all to my taste.

You surprise me, Dawnstar. I had you down as a sitar aficionado! π I think I'm going to try and watch 'live', so with buffering at my end, it will probably take me 90 minutes. And you never know. I didn't think I liked contemporary dance until I went to see Phoenix performing.

That's the ticket!
I was never a sitar fan until I heard it on a Philip Glass Album with Ravi Shankar Also You've stolen my heart (Asha Bhosle & Kronos Quartet could be a great place to start.

I didn't think I liked contemporary dance until I went to see Phoenix performing. I can't think of anything in the "world music" category that is my cup of tea. Basically I only like opera & musicals.
I didn't think I liked contemporary dance. I saw a triple bill at the ROH last year. I am now certain I don't like contemporary dance!

I don't know if this has been posted elsewhere, but yesterday Punchdrunk did a 12-hour live episode of Sky's Wicker Man-like series The Third Day with a cast including Jude Law (who I hope is somewhere very warm and dry today!). It's available to view on Sky's Facebook page. I missed the first 3 hours yesterday, but I don't think you need to know the plot of the series to follow it.
