Any song list that doesn't include a new Oscar-baiting song is not to be trusted.

Any song list that doesn't include a new Oscar-baiting song is not to be trusted. I would imagine for the film of Cats to go ahead there would have been some kind of claws in the contract for a new song. Could just be a tall tail though. Paws for thought.

I'm refraining from saying anything catty about these puns, even though I usually have no qualms calling a spayed 'a spayed'.

I'm sure (!) the film will be better but, having now seen the trailer three times, jeez it looks dull.

Oh - I just saw a tweet saying it was the LFF surprise film but another says it's not. Ah well, was looking forward to reviews!

LFF surprise film was Uncut Gems. Would be very surprised if they're not still finishing effects on Cats right up until the eleventh hour.

I see as predicted there is a new song "Beautiful Ghosts".

I see as predicted there is a new song "Beautiful Ghosts". Bits of it can be heard in the video here: ‘Ambition and aspiration to have a new song in the movie.’ (To get an Oscar nomination more like.)

Listening to those two short clips of the song, I think I prefer the 'in film' one to Taylor Swift's. I dislike that breathy style of singing that Taylor (in common with a lot of young female pop singers) does, where it sounds like she's feeling worn out.

Not gonna lie to you, I have been pondering this one for a while.
Now, just to clarify, I do think about things other that musical theatre and performers. However with this one, I feel like Tevye .
On one hand, I think why?
Why produce another film? What was wrong with the old one? As least that version is truer to the stage version, in terms of the costumes, sets, etc.
Whilst I appreciate the need to recognise the stars, from the clip I've seen, they look nothing like the original
Why is there a need to for a gender swap for certain characters? What was wrong with the original?
So many questions?
Just why?
Will I go and see this at the cinema? Of course.
I have to admit that when I went to see The Lion King re-make they showed the clip that everyone has seen and despite the above, I got goosebumps.
On the other hand, anything that's going to introduce a new audience to musical theatre that wouldn't have given it the time of day before, I'm behind
It also introduces a new generation to an old classic.
"Tradition!"

Taylor Swift’s song has been released. Reminds me of the winners song from I Can’t Sing: The X Factor Musical.

Does sound very typical of the latter Lloyd Webber stuff. Do like it. There's echoes of the "My Christine" motif from LND and also the verse of the song he wrote for the end of Wizard of Oz (was it called "No Place Like Home?")
Lovely melody but not life changing.

The song itself is OK, but Taylor Swift's voice annoys me - it's the breathy affectedness that gets on my last nerve. It seems to infest popular music at the moment, in part due to the John Lewis Christmas ads where they use breathy, affected cover versions of popular songs.

I like it. I'm getting "Already Home" (Wizard of Oz) vibes, esp in the beginning.

I started off hating it, the sudden pauses and it sounded very disjointed... but rather liked it by the end. It’s a grower..

Yeah, the amount of dialogue being added to a piece known as a sung through musical for nearly 40 years is JARRING!

I cant believe I'm sayibg this but i actually rather liked that trailer! i have only ever seen Cats once and really dont need to see it again, but the lack of singing worked for me. Obviously the trailer is misleading because there is way too much singing in the show, but it appealed to me more. I wont be going to the cinema to see it, but I'll definitely download it once the DVD screeners are out

I'll be as nice as I can: it looks mesmerisingly, jaw-droppingly terrible.
