One major difference from Les Miserables is that Cats relies to a large extent on dance. I dread to think Tom Hooper might treat the dancing in this the same way he treated the singing in Les Mis. Making it extremely lame so it feels more "real". Little does he know that "feeling real" lies in the opposite in this artform. In the art of embracing illusion. Because singing and dancing is not normal, realistic film dialogue. But this goes over his head. Because he hires Judi Dench. He did hire 1 dancer for a role though, so this is why I said, he is trying to please everyone. A buckshot in mid-air.

This news will please at least one person on here: Oh now we're talking. I can put up with Jason if we get Jennifer and Robbie!

This is quite the cast. Still not convinced how it can all look anything other than a bit daft in this day and age, and James Corden is a real deterant , but very intrigued to see this when released.

Interesting casting but I still don't think Cats will work as a feature film. We'll see I find it's only just bearable in a theatre! Will be interesting to see what form this takes

One of the disadvantages of digital cinema is that outraged audiences can't burn the reels of film.

Whats the problem with Jason Derulo? He trained in musical theatre before he became a pop star. He's a terrible pop star. 😂 I think I speak on behalf of 99% of the population who have heard of him in that whenever he gets a mention I can't think beyond him singing his own name in an electronic voice. Intellectually, I'm fully open to the likelihood that there is more to the man than that, but to most of us not well versed in his full CV, his announcement feels like the stuff of parody. It is virtually inevitable that if you want to make a film like this it will include a lot of well known names, and that as most of them will be doing something a bit different to what we're used to, there's going to be a lot of head scratching. I suppose we just have to trust the casting people to know what the director wants from each character, how the thing will be put together and to see beyond the obvious and to ensure they do have the required skills, and not just rely on watching old episodes of Top of the Pops. Nevertheless, I am laughing at the thought that they are trying to find someone for everyone to hate. Has Kelly Osborne been cast yet?

My poor brain rebels at the logic of this film.
Cats is a musical where very fit, highly skilled, slick, dancers become cats, and perform difficult dance numbers. .
They wear heavy make up so they look like distinctive cats, not humans.
The songs require skilled singers who an inject distinctive characters into their songs. And the ensemble numbers work when the ensemble collectively comes together. with a top class sound.
What on earth is the point of filling the cast with names, who can sing less well, and will dance like old moggies,
Even odder to have names - when they won't be recognisable under their make up. if its done properly, and won't have the ability to sing the group numbers well enough.
Why not just take the recent UK cast and just get an older pop star to sing memory.
It looks like a concept dreamt up by the team who thought Russell Crowe could sing Javert, or put Nick Jonas on stage alongside two world class, immensely powerful, young female singers .

I will NOT hear a bad word said against Nick Jonas in 'Les Miserables'. Or his one and a half expressions.
Sometimes, he even managed to walk at the same time as he sang. Bless him.

I watched Cats today, mostly because of this thread and the ‘most gruelling for the chorus’ thread.
“Lynn, idea for a thread. Things TheatreBoard made me do.”
Did they cut a lot of the dancing? I saw no signs of anything so strenuous that it would make performers throw up. I also have no desire to ever see this musical again. Although I did quite fancy Rum Tum Tugger. Not sure what is is about me and make believe cats this Christmas...

I haven’t watched Eastenders for year so I don’t know if he’s as attractive in that. I think I only found him attractive because he was in full Tim Curry mode (I actually thought it was Tim Curry for a while) and dressed as a sexy cat...

I'm not sure it's possible for this to sound less interesting at this point.
Oh, wait. They could get Katie Price to 'sing'.

I think I thought it was being motion captured, not actually being actored. How very...brave...of them. This totally is a Crowe sized blunder (although without Crowe having been great in loads of acting rolls previously)...maybe it’s more like the Katie Price idea instead. 🤪

Corden and Swift confirmed to play Bustopher Jones and Bombalurina respectively, rounding off the lead cast. Did we already know this? Sounds familiar! Have to say nothing about this cast excites me - every time successful musicals are turned into feature films it's the same issue though - household names over MT talent. Still, I expect nothing after Les Mis and Phantom so think I can only be pleasantly surprised! Cats a top 10 musical for me, so here's hoping! And certainly how this is gonna work style wise is intriguing.

Corden and Swift confirmed to play Bustopher Jones and Bombalurina respectively, rounding off the lead cast. Called it. Corden just seems perfect for either Skimbleshanks or Bustopher Jones. My money is on Bustopher Jones. It's pretty much his James Corden character anyway so limited acting required.

Was Zizi Strallen ever confirmed for this? Because either she’s part of the cast or was just attending the cast Christmas party/spending time with them on set according to social media...
