Cats is my least favourite musical and Taylor Swift ‘dancing’ is always pretty cringe, so I’m not sure this movie is for me 🤔 ... the production and set does look interesting though! 😜

I don’t know if I’ve ever mentioned this (haha) but I left at the interval. It was one of the absolute worst things I’ve ever seen.

It's the show that made me want to do what I do.
(Which is not peeing on kitchen floors or scratching up sofas).

Have to admit that I haven't been all that excited about this "film." Especially when someone had posted pictures of the original animated version they had done some drafts of (that looked really fascinating). But gotta give Universal Marketing an A+ on this. hearing the music (with new orchestrations) underneath the video with glimpses of a very, very different looking set then we've ever had with Cats - with a cast that seems to have been working hard and putting themselves into the roles (I was expecting it would be more computer generated, like the stupid iPhone app that makes people look like cartoon characters) - I was intrigued, possibly even excited about this. So well done Universal... so far. Let's hope the hype lives up to the final production.

I loved Cats, but what I loved about it was that it was all about the performance, the cast. Not the sets, the costumes and the budget. But I'm curious enough that I might see this. After all, we already have a recorded version of the show that's true to the original production. If they're going to create another one it's probably better to make it completely different.
I'm puzzled about the references to the story because there isn't much of a story in the original show, unless you include the bit about how when cats die they get stuck on the roof of the Russell Hotel.

I'm looking forward to seeing what the cast look like all catted up. I thought that 'behind the scenes' vid was interesting, especially the giant sets.

I think they're going to make more of the 'Don't scorn the scatty woman because she'll steal your seat in heaven' subtext but maybe play it as 'do as you will be done by'. I wonder whether how they'll do the ending, whether they'll have Griz ride the escalator up to the Heavyside Layer's first floor like the original, or have her abducted by aliens as per the more recent UK tour.

She’s done some good singings, and responsibly filled (and ridden) plenty of celebrity column inches, but credible musical theatre actress? I think not. It doesn’t even feel like one of those ‘lets wait and see’ jobs. Is she anything important in the film? Is there anything important at all in ‘Cats’ apart from it ending? Not a fan, soz.

Hmm, interesting, can't imagine I'll go and watch it in the cinema. I mean the thing that stuck out for me the most is that the sizes of the cats don't seem quite right in Trafalgar Square compared to the rest of the stuff in the trailer, I'd better not watch it if that's what I've taken from the trailer. (Never been a Cats fan though, was just a little curious).

I think making it close to the original is a bold choice, not sure it needed to be all motion capture though.

I think it looks a bit crap and very weird. Jennifer Hudson is not right for grizabella. She’s not fragile and despairing enough but that seems to be the direction they’ve been going with that character recently. I’ll still go to see it but I don’t hold out much hope!

“Mom, did Andrew feed the gremlins after midnight?”.
First impressions and all that, I kind of liked it......I think. Or maybe I’ve had too much rhubarb gin. But the snatch of Memory didn’t give me goosebumps as it can and should do....which I really wanted. But maybe seeing the entirety of the song and how Hudson's Grizabella plays out overall might do that.
But I really like the look of the sets and some of the cats look good...in a strange way. But why not! I’m rather fond of the musical itself and am very intrigued to see the film as a whole.

The shot of them all at the large door makes me think it should be called Rats.

My God - visually - it's like some weird trip; terrifying! Yet weirdly intriguing in a 'you can't stop looking' sort of way.
Musically - really can't abide what she's done with Memory. If any song should be sung in a clean MT style free from riffing this is it. Awful. Clearly they feel they have to appeal to the X Factor generation though and that's what they have done.
And therein lies the problem with the modern musical to film adaptations - they try to go for what they 'think' the masses want so that they can make money. I wonder how involved ALW was with the music. Assume David Cullen wasn't involved at all.
Anyway, maybe it works in the context of the film, who knows. I go into this with zero expectation so can only be pleasantly surprised I guess.

It looks awful - those Cats will be giving me nightmares for months. All that money and it looks like a PS2 game.
