Any word on how this "new" The Threepenny Opera will be. Rory Kinnear as MacHeath. Rosalie Craig as Mrs. Peachum? Simon Stephens' translation. My daughter will be in London May 17-24 and she's never seen a production of Three Penny Opera. The last one I saw was mumbledy years ago with Sting as MacHeath and it was ...... not good.

Are we sure Rosalie Craig is Mrs Peachum? Too young surely...? I reckon she's the daughter, Polly, who Mack has the hots for.

I'm sure I read somewhere that Haydn Gwynne is Mrs Peachum. That makes sense... And seeing a mess sometimes is a fun thing! And Honoured Guest - I made the corrections!

Not sure if this prompted the thread title but the last NT mailing did promise "filthy language and even filthier behaviour"

Not sure if this prompted the thread title but the last NT mailing did promise "filthy language and even filthier behaviour" I like a nice bit of filth and immoral behaviour at the NT. They do it so well. Anyone else remember The Romans in Britain? (I was there the night that someone lobbed some fireworks onto the stage. The actors stopped play, stamping out the straw they'd set light to. Bit of swearing from the demonstrators, who were promptly got rid of and that was that.) Then we had Mother Clapp's Molly House. And then Jerry Springer:The Opera... Very much looking forward to this.

'marry a highway man, you sorry slut!' - that's all very well, but I do wish people didn't eel they had to apologize for The beggar's Opera or tart it up in various guises. It is a glorious, sassy piece.
and Romans in Britain - apart from the dangly bits which are now three a penny (relevant to the thread), was it a good play?

Good, honest filth, but with a lot of dry, dusty preaching politics thrown in? Bring back the druids.

Was at the first preview last night. Never seen a production before but have 2 recordings. Boy, is it bonkers!! Much more bonkers than either of the recordings suggest. I think I'm still processing it but here are a few thoughts. The cast was really impressive and they sure do work hard. RK and RC are as good as ever but Nick Holder, Haydn Gwynne and Peter De Jersey at least match them. I usually love Sharon Small but she seemed underpowered (first preview though). Lots of amusing breaking of 4th wall. It is a glorious spectacle and uses the Olivier space well. Three hours including interval but I reckon they will tighten up and lose at least 10 minutes.

A few £15 tickets for the centre stalls front three rows have just gone on sale for every performance. Presumably these were held back until the staging was finalised.

Cheers for that fossil, just booked myself a front row matinee seat in a couple of weeks time, used my credit from The Suicide to pay for it.

I see quite a few more row C tickets have now gone on sale for the first week of June.

They remember their London lives at the time of the coronation when they still truly believed they were superior. They now complain so hard because they are generally irrelevant and so no one listens to them. Someone should direct them to Show Boat.

Could be tempted by a £15 especially since i'm a sucker for the revolve but the website is in a foul mood and won't let me login or remove all my extra tickets, wonder if they'll still be there by the time I wake up.

Have tried several times this evening to book for early July and no luck at all. Rather frustrating as I don't live in the UK so phoning the box office from Spain would defeat the enticing 15 pound ticket price. One more attempt tomorrow I suppose.

I always phone them by Skype - much-much cheaper) Anyway, the ticket system seems to be back to normal service, I've just booked a front row seat for early August.
