Currently playing "The Bird Woman" in Mary Poppins, Petula has seventy odd years of entertainment stories to tell many of them from musical theatre and movie musicals! www.petulaclark.co.uk/news.html

Her moment in "Mary Poppins" was easily the best part of the show in every way. Disagree totally BurlyBeaRTotally agree with that. To see such a legend take the part was pure class. Her vocal for an 87 year old was great too.

I saw her last tour. Left at the interval, it was awful. Having said that I read much better reviews from subsequent dates so maybe she has to “ease into it” these days. Understandable at that age. I wouldn’t risk it again though, it wasn’t cheap.

Here is a new song Petula has written for the current circumstances.
I wrote this lyric to David Hadzis’ lovely melody, and it came straight from the heart.
We are all going through a challenging time, and the future feels ‘on hold’.
We need each other more than ever, and we will, I believe, be stronger for this struggle.
My love to you all.
Petula x

Petula has just been awarded 'Oldie of the year' from Oldie Magazine. Given her career and the fact she was still on stage at 87 , well deserved!

A new collaboration with John Williams. The song is called New Flag.‘New Flag’ is a song for our time; a song of hope; about adapting to new circumstances; holding onto hope; appreciating the simpler things, the constants in your life.

Why isn't she a Dame? I'm not saying I'm a huge fan of the system but she's done a damn sight more than some of those who've been honoured.

Very possibly hulmeman! I have some direct connection with the UK honours process and it's a very odd system indeed. And don't get me started on some of those ladies honoured who haven't lived in this country for decades - or contributed anything much to it!

I saw Mary Poppins just a few weeks ago and I thought she was marvelous. Many of us won't even be alive at 90 let alone treading the boards nightly.

BBC4 showed a program on Friday night about her long career. Apparently she has played Maria in A Sound of Music the most on stage which I didn’t know. After such a long and varied career she definitely deserves to be a Dame. Happy Birthday Petula 🎂

I have seen her many times over the years including as my favourite Norma Desmond in Sunset, Bird Lady and in concert many times. Last time was at the big Sondheim tribute. I habe met her a few times and she always strikes me as being so modest and self deprecating considering the people she has worked with and the amount she has done. Happy Birthday Petula.

90 years old and still performing is quite an achievement (and still commanding the stage with grace too)! Happy 90th Petula.

Anyone fortunate enough to see her exit the Prince Edward stage door in Frith Street during Mary Poppins must have felt such a warmth from her; Through work, I saw her several times and she never failed to pause and sign autographs for anyone waiting before being escorted into her car. She still has the most bright and attentive eyes, sometimes partially hidden beneath an immaculate fedora she'd wear, along with a loose-fitting track-suit or downtime clothes having just finished a performance.
It is indeed a shame that she hasn't been made a dame but I imagine it's something she'd just shrug off as simply not meant to be.

I caught "I Know a Place" on the radio earlier today, and I was struck by the perfection of Petula's vocals in this superb, Tony-Hatch-penned, slice of 60s pop.

I have met Petula several times and she never disappointed. She certainly was never a diva and always underestimated her achievements.

Her back catalogue is superb, At the highlight of her pop career she produced so many great pop songs. Her recordings in various languages run into thousands.

I have been fortunate to see this wonderful lady 5 times:
22 August 1981 Maria in The Sound of Music at the Apollo Victoria, London and again at the same venue on 3 April 1982 15 December 1993 Mrs Johnston in Blood Brothers at the Music Box, New York (with David and Sean Cassidy as the twins) 23 November 1996 Norma Desmond in Sunset Boulevard at the Adelphi Theatre In concert on 12 May 2002 at the New Victoria Theatre, Woking and in concert again on 26 November 2006 at Drury Lane Theatre.
An amazing voice and huge selection of hit records. She really should be a Dame. Don't Sleep in the Subway is one of my favourite songs of all time - superb lyrics superbly sung.

Did anyone catch her singing "my favourite things" with Mary Martin on BBC2 at the weekend? I'd never seen it before, it was lovely.
