It looks like a lift disguised by plenty of dry ice & a false plate on the bottom of the chair. Its just smoke, dry ice sinks and hugs the stage (ala phantom) here you need smoke to rise to hide everything going on. @figaro Watch the underneath of the chair as soon as the smoke starts and pay attention to direction of the smoke towards the end, you'll notice how it billows as the section to hide the lift disappears and pulls the air. Really cool effect to be fair.

I hope by celebrity they don’t just mean someone from Blue.

They'll grab someone from Eastenders that they think audiences care about and call it a day.

I don't suppose there's any chance of Hannah Waddingham reprising her role as the Wicked Witch? I'm sure she's a big enough name now to shift a decent number of tickets. We can pray...

Ashley Banjo as the Tin Man and Jason Manford as the Lion. They’re going a bit older as well as celebrating casting then.

Oh dear… I think I’ll wait for the tour and hope that they cast it with actual actors.

Manford might be ok. When I saw him in Chitty his acting was at the level needed to portray a talking, funny lion (unless the show portrays the lion differently from the film and it actually requires subtlety). Ashley Banjo does very well for himself doesn’t he? Always on the telly it seems. And he’s done some panto so again, maybe the Tin Man isn’t that far away from that type of role? It’s all sounding a bit second rate though.

I think ‘competent’ is as good as we’ll get. Did the Tin Man perform a complicated dance break in Leicester?

Saw this in Leicester and the only saving grace in what is a pretty poor production was a decently competent cast. I’m honestly torn whether some whoops and applause at the entry of each ‘name’ will improve this and make it seem more of a panto-like event or just turn the whole thing plain insufferable.

Hold on! You haven’t seen who’s playing The Scarecrow or Dorothy yet, but let’s just say that fans of Blue and Hollyoaks will be pleased. 🤣

It’s all sounding a bit second rate though. In the previous London production most of the Wizards were terrible so the bar is pretty low. I can't remember who it was but I am sure I remember one of them having their lines on props etc and still getting them wrong. I think Manford will do a great job but it is really predictable casting.

Wow they are going really classy with the casting.
Just waiting for Alison Hammond to be Dorothy.

Jonny Fines' Scarecrow was one of the few saving graces in this production for me. If he's gone as well, it'll be real shame. Manford and Banjo will get bums on seats I guess, that's apparently the priority these days.

Produced by Michael Harrison at the Palladium - a panto cast was to be expected.
Maybe he'll just use the Joseph cast - Alexandra Burke as the Wicked Witch of the West? Jason Donovan as the Wizard? Jac Yarrow as the Scarecrow?

You know possibly it's the way my brain works but every time (I mean very single time) I see Ashley Banjo, with that trimmed moustache I can't help think of the animated image of Jafar from Aladdin

I don't get the Ashley Banjo appeal, there is a smugness and arrogance to him I find really off putting. His brother Jordin is so much more natural and endearing
