Greetings and thanks for this board's opportunity to gain better insights into London Theater!
My wife and I were in London last summer and found ourselves a bit lost in our efforts to buy theater tickets during our visit. (We had bought tickets to the show we REALLY wanted to see in advance and will do that this time as well.)
There seem to be so many ticket buying options we feel like we didn't know how to rank them. We've often used storefronts like TKTS to buy our same day tickets. However there are shows that aren't available through them plus we really don't know if they're the best place to buy from anyway. There now appear to be several online options for buying tickets with short notice. Plus I understand that you can often get good deals at the individual theaters on the day of the performance.
We're heading back to London in early February and are hoping to be a more prepared with a better strategy for our purchases this time around. We will have ranked the shows we want to see before we get there but are willing to let a show move up or down our rankings based on value/pricing of the tickets we can get. Can you help us build a strategy for buying tickets during the week we will there?
Thanks, Mike

Hi Mike. We are happy to help but if you could let us know which shows you want to see then we can advise on which sites to use (or not use!)

Tina you probably need to buy in advance as I think they have now pulled their on the day lottery and it usually sells out.
Our own @theatremonkey has a page about day seats which is incredibly useful.

Some of these are on here for dates in early February. officiallondontheatre.com/new-year-sale/Great Gatsby can be had for half price on the TodayTix app. Tina and Mary Poppins you'd be best to book in advance from the theatre. &Juliet has £20 day tickets on the day at the box office. Thriller Live is usually on Lovetheatre.com for pretty cheap.

The TodayTix app does offer £25 Rush seats for Tina but these obviously wouldn't be available until 10am on the day so is a bit of a gamble as to whether you'd be successful. If you're here for a while and have a few slots available, you'd probably be ok.
There are also generally offers everywhere for Bank Robbery, try LoveTheatre, FromTheBoxOffice, OfficialLondonTheatre and see what's out there.

The Rush tickets for Tina are always pretty bad though, they're always up the back of the 3rd level which apparently has awful leg room.

For Poppins definitely try their online lottery on their website www.delfontmackintosh.co.uk/tickets/mary-poppins/ticket-lottery.php at midday on Tuesday the week before you go to London. I've managed to get tickets twice so far, once 3rd row of the stalls, the other time second row of the circle for £25 each. My advice is have the lottery website open on as many devices as possible and in a normal window and an incognito window, doubling your chances of having the chance to get a ticket. In case you've not taken part in this kind of online lottery before basically at midday you're put in queue and if you're lucky it'll take you through to a booking page. If you've not taken part before maybe have an experiment tomorrow if you're able to so you know what to expect, no need to buy a ticket, just good to see how it works.
