Haymarket does not have a technical capacity for a show of this scale.

The general concensus (rumour) is if this is going to transfer it's likely to be the Phoenix But what about the Theatre Royal Haymarket after OFAH? I think the designs would compliment the decor of the theatre quite nicely and I think the stage is relatively the same size as the Theatre Royal Bath The Phoenix would be fitting insofar as that's where the original London production was.

I’m not sure what technical capacity it needs other than height & wing space? After all, it did manage to squeeze in the magnificent feat of theatrical engineering that was the ‘Heathers’ set. 😬

Since it is getting much criticism, can I just say a word for the Act 2 witch costume?
For me, this evoked an early 60s Hitchcock blonde -- think Tippi Hedren in The Birds -- but in rule-defying and dazzling orange. I thought the effect was quite delicious.

Yeah I had always been told the fly system was not very good ergo no production musicals could use it Theatre Royal Bath PROSENIUM OPENING 8.35M HEIGHT 7.70M DEPTH 13M WINGS 1.95M Theatre Royal Haymarket PROSENIUM OPENING 7.9OM HEIGHT 6.7OM DEPTH 11M WINGS 1.20M I suppose it's all speculation as OFAH isn't closing anyway Does TR Haymarket have the advance fly points required for the false prosc?

Have they included Our Little World in this production? Yes. Just grabbed the programme to check. Had another flick through and noticed a little quote I didnt see earlier... Scenario Two Producer "Their next project... Into the Woods... opens at the Theatre Royal Bath in August 2022, before transferring to London's West End." Granted alot has changed since that was written and the programmes were printed I can imagine, sounds like the plans are indeed headstrong.

The mystery will be solved when Terry Gilliam is spotted at a west end theatre “measuring the stage” as was proported to be the case when Bath was under consideration 🙄

I wrongly assumed (seeing a preview) the awful Act 2 costume would be changed; given the more traditional design of the others, it's a really poor and rather odd choice. I agree it’s not glam at all, too much bank manager/air steward. Costume and wig need glamorising please 😃💅

Oh come on, I mean, this costume can’t be that bad… there’s “bad” in the context of an otherwise well designed show, then there’s something like Legally Blonde at OAT where you want to bleach your eyes.

It just doesn't match anything else around her - there's so many things that would make Nicola look incredible and the reveal more impressive, but I just didn't get that from the orange power suit.

Need to do a review but saw this on Saturday afternoon. The bird came out of the proscenium by the way
It’s not as bad as the witches transformed costume but Cinderella’s Princes wig and beard looked weird as well. Certainly fitted his personality but not his look, or everyone else’s for that matter

I thought this was magnificent this evening, and was amazed to realise during curtain call that the Cinderella was a stand-in - Aliza Vakil. She was superb, I thought.

I thought this was magnificent this evening, and was amazed to realise during curtain call that the Cinderella was a stand-in - Aliza Vakil. She was superb, I thought. I was also at the show last night and would like to second Bordeaux’s post about both the show and Alisa Vakil. It’s hard to imagine her performance being bettered - bravo! I’ve seen many incarnations of ITW including The Donmar, Linbury and OAT. This current production at TRB is the only one that held my attention fully throughout. Previously I’ve found myself drifting off a bit in Act 2 but I was totally lost in this version from start to finish. I agree with other members about the Commedia style mask on the Witch being a bit restricting in terms of acting and also felt Rashan Stone’s performance in Act 1 felt underpowered. That said, I thought he really amped it up in Act 2 and his ‘No More’ ( one of my favourite songs in the show) was absolutely beautiful and moving. I really liked the twist on the usual version of the Mysterious Man. Julian Bleach being the absolutely perfect casting for this role. The innovation of the design in the production is ingenious. There are so brilliantly executed surprises, one of the reasons why the show felt so fresh I think. The way the muddy, menacing bleakness of the second act contrasts with act one has never been bettered IMO. The cast are superb. It’s hard to pick anyone out for a special mention as they were all excellent (including of course the ensemble members). That said, I have never seen a performer in a (terrifically designed) cow costume manage to display such a range of emotions and comedy. Extraordinary, especially as she is in the costume bent double for much of her performance. Tonally it’s bang-on. Moving, thought- provoking and very funny in parts. It also felt to me anyway, more relevant to the world we’re living in now, than at previous times I’ve seen it. I really hope this production gets a run in London. If not, I’d say if you’re a Sondheim lover, put your politics aside and try to get down to Bath for the final weeks. I doubt there will be another production of ITW as inventive as this one anytime soon. Ps.I totally agree with the other comments about Nicola’s transformation costume. I quite liked the fact that it resembled something Liz Truss might wear, but something sharply tailored in a better colour would have been nice.

Sorry but that cow showed no ‘emotions’ at all. It was designed to get some cheap laughs and that’s it.
From what I’m now hearing- if you want to see it, get thee to Bath. The chances of a west end run are looking more and more remote.
Every theatre owner in London has seen it and they have had no offers of a theatre. The Phoenix (ATG?) clearly has had other ideas since seeing it.

What exactly is going in to all these theatres (Duke of Yorks, Phoenix, Ambassadors, Harold Pinter, Lyric etc) then in the New Year? There is so little buzz about any transfers or upcoming shows so it doesn't seem like they are spoiled for choice.

Anthony Lilley's tweet at the end sounds promising. He's co-producer wuth Danny Moar.
Sondheim deserves far better than Sunday in the Park with Jake and then the Bath ITW not transferring. I live in hope.

Even though I didn’t love the production, I do still hope a transfer happens. I think it would only improve with time once everyone settles into their roles.
I just hope if/when it transfers, there’s a new Baker!
