Shame about the director!! Agreed. The two Berlioz operas he did for ENO looked amazing but lacked depth. |

I'm excited to see it. I've never seen it in person, my introduction was this was the digital theatre filmed version from Regents Park, which i absolutely loved. Wanted to see a production ever since.

Thank goodness this has been announced - it’s been the hardest secret to keep ever! I was a bit worried last week because I thought the bus driver of the number 281 might have put two and two together when I walked onto the bus doing a Monty Python “Ministry Of Silly Walks” walk whilst belting out “Agony” but he didn’t say anything...
And then a couple of weeks ago I was in Pret and when the bloke asked me if I wanted any hot drinks to go with my Pole & Line Caught Tuna Mayo & Cucumber Baguette I accidentally blurted out “Terry Gilliam is directing Into The Woods at the Old Vic this winter (official announcement to follow soon)!!!” but I think he probably already knew.

So happy this is happening! As a huge Sondheim fan and a huge Python fan, this sounds like a perfect match for me! Also, I may just be reading too much into things, but the last few posts in relation to a few TB members being in the know when it came to this happening sound a little off. Can we all just appreicate that those who are privy to that kind of information choose to share it, as opposed to bringing them down?

I’m really, really excited for this. I love Into The Woods but the only opportunity i’ve had to see it was the film a few years ago - I can’t wait to hopefully see it on stage!
When do we think tickets will go on sale?

I think Into The Woods is the perfect show to introduce a person not familiar with the concept (personally I refer to them as either virgins or muggles) to musical theatre 🎭
I mean everyone is familiar with the principle characters and their individual storylines and can easily adapt to the ‘newer’ characters of The Baker and his wife and how their story intertwined with that of the others.

I'm so happy about this! I'm probably alone in this, but I'm excited to see how Terry Gilliam will adapt it. I'm a huge fan of his work (Brazil and Time Bandits are some of my favourite films) and I'd be interested to see what he could do with it. Honestly, he would have been a better choice to direct the film version.

After the film, I think there will definitely be some interest in this and it will be interesting to see who gets cast. I do think this would work terrifically well in the round however, the audience being the "woods"

It was definitely the worst one I've seen. It was a mess. i dont recall it having a big orchestra as it was in the studio space. The broken mirror set did nothing to help. |

At least you got to see it! We travelled down from Norwich, had a hotel booked and after the first ten minutes or so the production was halted. A torrential rain storm had flooded the back stage area. We all milled around in the bar for a while, before we were sent off into the night. Ticket refund only. We booked to see ITW at Regent's Park. Hotel etc. Got down there, rain, matinee abandoned! Luckily (for once), we were booked for the evening performance, which went ahead. Phew! |
