Has anyone received their refund for this yet? Yes. Had mine refunded within a few days. Thank-you! That prompted me to look more closely, and I have been refunded too, after all. Unfortunately overshadowed up by all the other outgoings on the card...

That’s a bit desperate. Wow.

It also sounds like no deal has been done before this has leaked so I'm skeptical one will be done. If he thinks he is some sort of victim there must be a high chance that he will give another interview where he blames actual victims before the contract is signed. At the very least I suspect any host theatre will want detailed codes of conduct enshrined in the contract.

Because it’s outside of your hallowed London? TRB have been a respected producing house for a long time.

They’re measuring the stage before starting talks? I’m sure the people a the TRB know exactly how big their stage is without having to get the tape measure out for Mr Gillian. Sounds like a load of old guff!

It does sound like they’ve leaked it before they can change their mind.

Set in a Childrens home? How will that work exactly?

I guess it’s more that the children’s home is a framing device and the kids there are telling each other fairytale stories. Jack and Little Red are orphans by the end of the show as well so that’s a link. The narrator will probably be played by a child or multiple children, which seems an odd choice seeing as they already did that with the Regent’s Park production.

How wonderful! Nice to have a musical in my home theatre. Usually have to travel to see them in Bristol/Cardifff as it’s predominately plays at TRB.

How lovely that the staff at the Theatre Royal Bath are able to turn a blind eye to his loathsome comments.

“we are extremely grateful to Steve and James Lapine for their support as we searched for a new home for this production.”
Sounds like the production has/had support from the writers so maybe the staff took their lead from them.

Slightly different. You aren’t inviting Dahl into your home.

Gah the hypocrisy! Some of the things said on this board pale by comparison but all of a sudden we get a protector of our moral turpitude? Pull the other one. It’s just a bandwagon for people to leap on at the merest whiff of a cancellation or scandal.

He expressed some opinions which are a bit outdated and considered unacceptable by some, maybe 'loathsome' by others, but does that make him unemployable? I don't think there's evidence of any actual wrongdoing. I've read plenty of interviews with actors and directors who've said things that I strongly disagreed with, or just made me cringe. I've worked with people who held views I found appalling - what else should I have done other than turn a blind eye or argue with them when appropriate? I disagree with blacklisting, restricting free speech and hounding people out of jobs, and I think tolerance should be applied across the board, not just where it's easiest. Theatre staff are protected by contracts and employment laws. Why should they also be allowed to censor the views of their colleagues? Where do we draw the line?

There will be pushback.
The movement supporting a need for cultural change has done, overall, a huge net good. Criminals have been brought to justice and hearts and minds are being won.
As with anything good, there are those who damage the message, either intentionally through sabotage or accidentally through becoming a zealot for the cause, leading to increasingly extreme actions/views. Just look at religion.
Social justice is no different.
What was initially about righting obvious wrongs and imbalances in society is being overtaken by a culture of a need to look for - or even create wrongs that need to be "fixed".
People who are beginning to realise that anyone, anytime, can become a target if their views don't perfectly match the consensus - especially the social media consensus.
In short, it has become everything it is fighting against. Inevitably, what happens is the (quiet) sensible middle pushes back against it, and so much great work is undone.
I've said before, whilst I personally don't agree with Gilliam's views, he has said and done nothing illegal, he hasn't incited hatred, he has just given his opinion in the same way that lots of people who feel the opposite have given theirs.
This culture of "everyone who disagrees with my extreme liberal views is evil" has to stop, or there will be a big swing back the other way when people rebel against it.
Spoken as a mixed race liberal.

It will transfer to the West End after Bath according to Baz. And interest from Broadway too.
