Who will play Jerry’s boss ? Originally the splendid Reginald Marsh who delivered exactly the same performance in George and Mildred, Terry and June, Only When I Laugh, Home to Roost and a host of other telly favourites. I always associate Reginald Marsh with Terry and June but he was one of those character actors who always played a similar part although John Barron as CJ was perhaps the definitive company boss.

It's quite a short run in Bath which makes me think a transfer is likely, the earliest they could transfer would be late July/early August as the Duke of York's will be free from then.

One of my favourite lines from the show is when Margot finds Barbara looking through some brown envelopes.
Margot: Bills?
Barbara: These are big enough to be Williams!

Possibly should be in the Nicholas Parsons thread. Anyway.

The age of the characters in the Good Life was never really mentioned. Richard Briers was in real life 12 years older than Felicity Kendall and Paul Eddington was a similar amount older than Penelope Keith. But having the characters played by people late 30's into early of mid 40's would be fine as there is no reason that all the character's shouldn't be the same ballpark age as Tom was supposed to be 40 in the first episode.
Do we know if it will be based on classic episodes or has been rewritten into a longer continuous play and who'd adapt it with the approval of the Esmond and Larbey estates.

Thanks for this one. Have booked for Richmond (a theatre I don't think I've ever been to). Looks like this is touring now, rather than going into the West End.

Joining Rufus Hound are Sally Tatum as Barbara Good, Dominic Rowan as Jerry Leadbetter and Preeya Kalidas as Margot Leadbetter.
Katherine Parkinson no longer involved, if she ever was.

I enjoyed this more than I expected to tonight at Richmond.
A nice theatre. I had booked the front row, but the theatre contacted me in an advance to say the stage was raised due to a revolve and suggested I move back. I ended up in the centre of the third row. Lots of space around and a perfect view. The theatre was much fuller further back but many of these were seats that were allocated very late.
This is a gentle evening out, combining scripts from the TV show with new material. It flows quite well, over a period of around 12 months. There are six actors, with the four leads and two people playing various other roles. Everything takes place in one of the two living rooms, which update during the play.
The first 20 minutes is a bit slow, but it picks up from there. Plenty of laughs in the second half. There are some cute animals (puppets) used as well.
I do remember the show but it's years since I've seen it, so it's hard to say what material is new, apart from some of the jokes would likely not have made it into the TV show. And there are 70s references which look like they wouldn't have been considered funny at the time. But I found this to be an entertaining enough evening and a lot of the (mostly elderly) audience lapped it up.

Saw this in Chichester and have to say it was distinctly average. Cast giving their all but Margo was miscast and missed the ‘just slightly near the edge’ facet to the original character. All seemed to wrap up very quickly too as if the adapter lost interest. 1 hr 40 mins in total + 20 min interval.
Don’t think it is going on anywhere else but that’s not much of a loss tbh!!
