With the reviews of Tina there is no chance it will get nominated for best musical.

With the reviews of Tina there is no chance it will get nominated for best musical. Not at all - it could well still be nominated even if it won't win. Many of the reviews said the book was rubbish but a lot of the rest was good. Adrienne will be nominated and probably has more chance of winning than she did at the Oliviers. Best Musical really depends on what else comes through - Moulin Rouge, Six and Jagged Little Pill are the obvious other nominees but there is room for Tina as competition this season for new shows doesn't appear to be huge. Girl From the North Country positions itself as a play but the Oliviers ignored that so the Tonys may well do also. Company, West Side Story and Caroline for revival presumably!

There’s the new musical Flying Over Sunset which could go either way. Also Mrs Doubtfire if it’s a good adaptation. I believe Girl From North Country will be classed in the musicals, probably a good thing for it as it will be up against Inheritance
I don’t see Diana getting nominated with the out of town reviews but who knows.

did Tina get bad reviews? Not particularly - pretty much universal raves for Adrienne, some mixed about the rest of the cast and the book, generally complimentary about set design etc.

West Side Story won't be eligible since not enough Tony voters saw it. Six also didn't officially open. Same goes for Diana. And Company And Mrs Doubtfire Starting to wonder why when so many shows that should have been eligible this year now won’t be.

And Company And Mrs Doubtfire Starting to wonder why when so many shows that should have been eligible this year now won’t be. Because carrying it over until next year would be disproportionately unfair on all the shows that did open. Maybe in future we won't see so many shows leaving it until later in the window to open. Surely they will bend the eligibility rules a bit, particularly for Six given I think it was due to open the night Broadway shut down? Anyway, just give Adrienne Warren her well deserved Tony award and all will be well!

I think the eligible shows are the ones that opened before February 18. There's no point in making an exception for Six, since almost none of the Tony voters had a chance to see it before the theatre closure. Some categories will be very mediocre, especially best musical and best actor in a musical.
