I have to say I don't ever quite understand the "I can see it in this city, so why see it in a closer city" argument. Honey tastes different depending on what the bees eat, if it's still honey.

Last of my Broadway mini-reviews. Saw Tootsie a couple of weeks ago whilst in NYC with the family. This was the only show that we pre-booked for, with ticket prices as expensive as they are I wanted us to have a least one show sorted and then rush/TKTS the rest when we were there. Got side tickets on Row D of the Mezzanine that worked out to about £63 each (this was with a discount code). Good clear view from these seats and I was happy with this price.
I absolutely loved this show and whilst it's true that the score isn't the best you'll ever hear it works well within the context of the show but it's completely the book and the comedy of the script that gives this show its life, I can't remember the last time I laughed so much during a musical. An extremely strong cast throughout. This is definitely your traditional Broadway show. Santino is truly fantastic as Michael/Dorothy and completely deserves the Tony award based on the performance I saw, he's barely off stage throughout the entire show.
I like that on the cast recording there's quite a few bits of libretto included, but on returning home and listening to the recording I find most of the musical serviceable, there are some nice songs of course, but all works better in the context of the live show. The score actually reminds me (in places) of The Full Monty (another Yazbek show).
I look forward to this coming to London in 2020.

Talk of this coming over next year in 2020.
However talk on BWW this could close soon, as it has really slipped in the weekly gross. Not getting the Tony hurt this.

I’m excited about this potential transfer. I’m hoping that either Santino transfers with it or they get someone GOOD. I have this horrendous image of John Barrowman in it!

Will this actually transfer over? It’s not doing so hot on Broadway and it’s rumored it might close in January as a flop.

Saw it tonight. We wanted to see Beetlejuice but they weren't able to sell the last rush ticket an a normal ticket and tell us where the seats are (and the woman was not very polite). So we did Tootsie rush... And it was really, really funny. The songs work great with the story. The cast is great. If you want to find a weak link, it may be some parts of the set that looked a bit old fashioned, like the New York Skyline in pastelish colours. The theatre was nearly sold out. Only a few single seats were not sold.
We had a great time. A really good musical comedy.

I saw it on Friday night as a comp. Their grosses are really really low. Though it looked full, I know they are comping and ticketing like crazy. There are already two things booked after it. I saw Tootsie in Chicago during tryouts. Politically, I think it's really off quite tone-deaf. But if you're willing to be complicit and park that aside, it has its literal laugh out loud funny moments. As I was watching it, it occurred to me that its musical within a musical - "Juliet's Nurse" - IS actually &Juliet! LOL

“ Additionally, plans for several international productions of Tootsie are underway. Exact timing for all will be announced in the coming months.”
London was mentioned previously, I wonder if it will happen. I think the main thing will depend on theatre availability.

"Producers say plans for several international productions are underway."
If I had a penny for every time this and/or "will soon go on tour" was announced to sweeten the pill...
