Don't know if anyone caught this on BBC4 last night.
Together, they are 342 years old. They are in their seventh decade of cutting-edge, epoch-defining performances on stage and on screen. Funny, smart, sharp, competitive, tearful, hilarious, savage, clever, caustic, cool, gorgeous, poignant, irreverent, iconic, old... and unbelievably young.
Special friends, special women and special dames - and this special film is a once-in-a-lifetime chance to hang out with them all, at the same table, at the same time, and enjoy sparkling and unguarded conversation spliced with a raft of astonishing archive. Atkins, Dench, Smith, Plowright. The dream dame team. Don't miss it.
If you're interested and you can, I'd recommend watching it on catch up.

Is this the same thing that was on last year? If so then yes I agree it is utterly sublime.

If it's back may have to watch it a third time, it's such a touching piece.

I watched it first time round and enjoyed it, and watched it again yesterday and enjoyed it all over again. They're fab together. There's something about getting old that means you don't really give a sh*t any more and don't mind just saying stuff.
Also, wasn't young Joan Plowright ridiculously pretty? She's been old for as long as I can remember, but it was nice to see her young.

I would have loved to have seen her on stage and yes very pretty. The Joan of Arc speech that she did for the National 50th never fails to bring a lump to my throat.

My mum saw Judi Dench as Juliet in the Zeffirelli production - my mum was 15 and remembers it vividly. She's talked about it so much that I feel like I saw it too. I can always see that in Judi Dench's face when I watch her talk now, and she always looks a bit like a teenager to me.

Watched this first time around and caught it again. Utterly superb. Interesting that of the four only la Dench played Cleopatra in the Uk. Maggie Smith did it during her somewhat bizarre "exile" in Canada during the mid 70s and Atkins and, Plowright never did, seemingly due to looks?
