Saw this tonight and really enjoyed it; not as clever as it thought it was but still very good. I wanted it to be a bit tackier and ‘Clue-like’ going in but it’s very stylised and really rather ace.

i saw it this week and was a bit disappointed by it. i was expecting something with more twists and it was all a bit pedestrian until the final 15 minutes. it didn't live up to the great reviews fot me.

It certainly isn’t the film represented by the trailer or the reviews. The central character hasn’t been mentioned or featured and it’s her arc that makes it pedestrian. |

I saw this a couple of weeks ago and loved it, one of my favourite films I’ve seen in a while. I thought the plot was well written and quite a few laugh out loud moments. Nice to see people like Toni Colette and Chris Evans playing against their usual type. Daniel Craig was great too in a fun role.

I thought it was pretty great! The fact that the murderer and method are shown to us 20 minutes in is pretty creative and means you let your guard down and don't look for 'whodunnit' making that more of a surprise even though all the clues are there and the classism/immigration metaphors (and overt discussions) are pretty seemlessly blended into the narrative.

I saw it last week and I liked it as a whodunit, but a lot of the humour fell a bit flat for me, with the notable exception of Daniel Craig doing Sondheim.

Saw it today I honestly loved everything about it, more than lives up to the 97% on rotten tomatoes for me! I'm a big Murder Mystery fan and I loved the take on the genre. Lovely writing (I laughed out loud loads, as did the majority of the screen), gorgeous cinematography, well directed, really fun twists and all the ensemble cast give great performances in my opinion. It looks like they had a lot of fun making it. So happy I saw it. The little brochure in the Everyman says if you loved Grand Budapest Hotel, you'll love this (I did and I do) - and on the whole I can see what they mean.

Enormously fun and stylish and it reminded me of Get Out in how it used a traditional genre to explore the politics of racism. But I found most of the twists obvious from early on. And there was one plot hole that bugged me. I did generally love it. It was incredibly obvious during the flashback to the scene that resulted in the old man’s death that he had not been accidentally given an overdose. He was completely compos mentis and showed no physical signs even several minutes after a dose that should have been almost immediately fatal.
I guessed straight away that it would turn out she had given him the correct doses after all. But the bottles obviously had been changed, so it was obvious a third party had tried to kill him by switching the bottles but Marta had mixed them up. CE’s character was dodgy all along which could have been a red herring, but the exchange in the car over the email made it clear he was the one blackmailing her, to the point it made Marta look a bit dim.
I actually thought there was going to be another twist, either that she had murdered him via manipulating him into thinking he’d been fatally poisoned, or that he’d planned his death and arranged to
hire the investigator himself for some dark agenda. But no. The whole film revolves around a highly intelligent man believing that a massive morphine overdose makes you feel completely fine and unaffected for exactly 9 minutes 59 seconds whereupon you instantly keel over. That was a plot hole for me. |

I also saw this a couple of weeks ago and had a ball. I'd seen the trailer umpteen times and that didn't sell it to me and I'm not a particular fan of the murder mystery genre, so I was a little wary, but it was 2 hours plus of sheer fun, entertainment and escapism. The plot did get a little ridiculous but I chose not to focus too closely on that and simply go along for the ride. Also a welcome change from all the heavy "relationship issues" films I've seen recently (eg Marriage Story and Ordinary Love); more like this, please!

I loved this. I loved the ensemble vibe, the various interactions and how they cut from one dysfunctional family member to another, which they balanced nicely by letting us get to know one central character better.
I've seen some crime thriller fans say they wanted more twists, or a locked room conundrum, but I think more twists would have become tedious and I'm bored with the locked room premise. I did feel like we didn't quite get enough from actors like Jamie Lee-Curtis, but it wouldn't have served the story, so the right call.
I felt it was the comedy that made it excel, rather than the crime drama side of things. That was a pleasant and fun backdrop, but I thought the humour was a nice mix of satire and slapstick that appealed to my mood when I went to see it.
I don't want to say too much, because I personally hate all forms of spoilers, but I especially enjoyed the role of the dogs.

I think Rian Johnson should have Joseph Gordon Levitt, Bruce Willis and Adam Driver in the next Benoit Blanc film.

I thought Daniel Craig was totally leaden in this, so a sequel with the focus on him doesn't inspire me.

DC was awful indeed.
I really enjoyed it despite him though. I do like DC's aloof and detached Bond, but I can't think of anything else I've enjoyed him in. He helped to tank The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, in my opinion.

I thought his performance in GWTDT was extremely phoned in as well. I think it all went to his head a little. This performance is just odd! Kudos I guess to him actually putting some effort into creating a character, but I just don't think it worked. |

Having a whodunnit series with a ‘blank’ leading man could be great. Imagine all of the fantastic character actors revolving around him to keep it bright and stylish, like a modern day Ustinov/Poirot. I see that as a real positive.

My favourite suggestion has been that the follow-up film to this has Daniel Craig reviving the role, but with a completely different, random (and slightly rubbish) accent.

^Craig’s accent visited various countries in between his attempt at the southern drawl (described as sounding like KFC Foghorn Leghorn style in the movie).
The whole thing reminded me of a two-bit TV movie like ‘Sparkling Cyanide’ in the 80’s...a rather tedious snore-fest for me.

I liked him in the role too, although the standout was definitely the magnetic Ana de Armas who I suspect is about to break out in a major way.
I enjoyed the film quite a bit and think the idea to have sequels with Craig's character and new actors is a great one.

I enjoyed the film but whilst I didn't think Craig was a disaster, I do wonder what it would have been like with a more natural comedian- Robert Downey Jnr would have been more naturally quirky.

Saw it yesterday and left halfway through - I was really looking forward to it as I'd heard good things but found it pedestrian, cliched and unfunny.
And Daniel Craig really was dreadful. How Ana de Armas kept a straight face listening to those accents I will never know!
