It's not my favourite musical but I'd look forward to seeing Imelda in it. Saw Janie Dee in it at Curve and Bernadette Peters in New York. The set design of the Broadway production was immense.

This has all gone very quiet. Does anyone know whether it's still going ahead?

This has all gone very quiet. Does anyone know whether it's still going ahead? I’m certain the plan was always to get The Crown out of the way before continuing with this. Since the show ends in November I predict we’ll hear a lot more about Hello Dolly in the coming months.

I really hope that was well as Imelda we get Charlie Stemp for this show. I believe extra dances were given to him on Broadway so would be great to see him in this.

I hope as many of the original people attached to this return as possible actually.
Whilst the idea of Jenna Russell as Irene Malloy Still baffles me, Harry Hepple, Tyrone Huntley and Clare Halse as Cornelius, Barnaby and Minnie would be an absolute delight!

Jenny Russell just seems too old for that role.
I imagine they'll announce in the autumn to capitalise on all the crown hype and publicity.

It’s definitely going to the Palladium next summer. Announcement is imminent. They really should not have Jenna as Irene. That part needs someone who can sing beautifully.

I know it's too much to dream, but I'd love if we got something similar to Broadway when Bette Midler did 7 shows a week and Donna Murphy did the 8th. Basically, what I'm saying is I want Joanna Riding to be Imelda's standby and have a guaranteed show a week. And I think since I didn't get Jake and Annaleigh in Sunday in the universe owes me this one.

Louise Dearman would make a gorgeous Irene Malloy...

Staunton is not a Dolly Levi in any shape or form. It needs brash, brassy and sassy - she's none of those.

she is an amazing actress having seen her in Gypsy and Sweeney. I expect her to make a great Dolly. I really don't think she would do it if she knew she couldn't pull it off.

I have seen the film but don't remember much to be honest. She was signed up to play Irene before, which made absolutely no sense. The time between her originally being announced and actually doing it will be 5 years, so one would hope that they'll decide to recast as she was too old to begin with and will be far too old by the time we get there.

At least with Imelda I think she will actually play a character. Unlike many who have played it stateside

If I could have it my way, Imelda Staunton would not have anything to do with any production of 'Hello Dolly', but I appreciate it's a very personal opinion and many will be excited to see her as Dolly. I will gladly wait for her understudy to go on...
As for Jenna Russell, I love her and I think she is one of the best MT actresses, but let's be honest here: in the earliest productions, Irene and Cornelius were played by actors both in their early thirties; in the Broadway 2017 revival, they were played by Kate Baldwin and Gavin Creel who were both just past 40, but could definitely play a bit younger, and their pairing worked well on stage... I'm sorry, but casting Irene and Cornelius well into their fifties would seem a bit too much of a stretch to me.

Oh I thought she was a terrific Lovett, and whilst I did enjoy elements of her Sally, I just never thought she was right for it at all

I will see this although already feeling pessimistic about pricing. Doubt there will be any stalls seats under £75. Maybe some back two rows in the £50s? I’ve actually never sat in the Royal Circle at the Palladium so this might be a good show to try it. There’s also some stalls seats at the Palladium with very little legroom, if I remember correctly.
Will likely end up booking a side aisle seat rear stalls.

Yes it's not going to be cheap. My tickets for the cancelled show were £120 each nut they were good stalls seats with programme, ice cream and drink thrown in. But I've resigned myself to pay quite a bit for this as I've never seen Dolly before and love Imelda Staunton.

Theres only really central stalls or front row with much leg room in the Palladium. The side blocks of stalls are really tight due to their curve, and I don’t remember ever being comfortable in either circle.
