I saw bits and pieces of the award at an ungodly hour this morning and was pretty much crying throughout my entire viewing LOL The Hamilton bit was actually underwhelming, maybe because Yorktown isn't my favorite number. I did enjoy the ending when they sang Schyler Sisters, despite the sound not being amazing.
James Corden looked like an amazing MC. I can't wait to see the entire thing from start to finish.
Did Barbra Streisand bother to actually open the envelope?
If Jesse Meuller leaves Waitress, Sara Breilles should replace her as Jenna.
So happy that my four picks for actors in a musical won: Cynthia, Rene, Daveed and Leslie. I missed Rene's and Daveed's speeches, but Cynthia's speech was wonderful. I heard her performance was amazing, but I've yet to watch that. Leslie's speech was very stoic. I think he was trying his best to keep it together. I hope this means he gets to stay in the show. I've yet to see him til December, but from the naughty boots I've seen, the amount of swagger he exudes is unbelievable.
So with Tony Awards and Game of Thrones on tonight, I think my PJs are desperately awaiting my return home from work for an evening of tears and suspense!

Just finished watching the Tonys 'live' here in San Francisco (stupid 3h time delay...).
I thought James Corden was an amazing host, hugely enjoyed the opening number. Wouldn't say no to see him returning as host in 1 or 2 years.
The bits outside the Beacon Theatre were a great idea, too bad that they only broadcasted less than 1 min of each.
From all the shows performing, School of Rock was the only that made me want to see the show (which I already have, just for the record, but I can't wait to see it again). Waitress and Bright Star were OK-ish - I wouldn't rush to see them, but might go if I had time. Absolutely no interest in all the other shows (and yes, that includes Color Purple).
Alex Brightman has really lost a lot of weight since I saw the show mid March.
Why did they have to show that car karaoke clip again?
Really happy for Cynthia winning her Tony, but what did she do with her hair? And that dress looked awful.
Not saying anything else about the awards themselves, I think my position re Hamilton is well-known (I did mute the TV when they were on and switched it off a few moments into the finale).

If you get the chance, the two best performances were The Color Purple and Waitress. Bothleading ladies were stunning, I was in awe of both!

Wasn't going to stay up and watch because of important work stuffs today but ended up awake at 3am and watched it till the end. I started just before Hamilton performed. Really good show this year, so happy for Cynthia. Thrilled with the Hamilton acting recipients, especially Daveed Diggs!

First shock - Christopher Fitzgerald (snubbed). Not a shock at all, I'm sure he was very good, but having seen Daveed Diggs in action, the only possible shock in that category would have been if they'd decided someone else was better. (Apologies in advance, I'm going through this whole thread and may have a few more comments to make in a row, so if you don't like my opinions much, maybe steer clear for the next half hour or so. ) Never mind, it turns out my only real opinion is "DAVEED DIGGS IS AWESOME", and I could've told you that long before last night.

One of my favourite things of all, the women in the category with Cynthia seemed genuinely thrilled for her when she won. They all cheered the second they heard, Phillipa immediately rising to her feet, it really is lovely to see. same with everyone looking thrilled for her! And her saying "Mummy Look" and the camera panning to her crying Mum was the moment that made me cry most last night!

Oh man- it only started at 3 am here and I had to head of to work at 6, so I skipped it (glad I did, it sounds as unexciting as i thought, not worth pulling an all nighter for, but I do really want to see the flow of the show) Anyone know where I can watch the whole thing now? anything but Torrent would work

I was very impressed with Waitress. I'd heard about it but not really looked into it or listened to anything but i really enjoyed the performances and that 2nd song. I'd now be interested for it to come over here but i wonder how well it might translate? I suppose american shows come over all the time and it's fine though.

Oh I did just cry watching Cynthia's speech. So pleased she won, I haven't seen all the nominees but I know her performance was one of the best I've seen in years.
Pleased for Leslie and Daveed in Hamilton too, those two really were the standout performers when I saw it.
Haven't watched the performances/Cordon yet but I do love James C so looking forward to it!

Is there any way of watching the show in the UK? I can only find clips on YouTube.

Also, for anyone who wanted to see the ACTUAL opening of the show, it was a small tribute from James regarding the Orlando attacks and all of the silver ribbons that the audience, winners, hosts etc were wearing were also in memory and support of those lost at the weekend due to the attacks.

The Young Vic had a good night with A View from The Bridge winning best revival of a play and best director. The Humans i wouldn't be surprised if it ends up transferring over here either as a commercial production or somewhere like the National.

The Colour Purple is extremely unlikely to transfer, in my opinion, as we've already had it here. Plus I imagine Cynthia will want to utilise her Tony win and take on a new role on Broadway. Watched this earlier and loved it. The performances were fabulous. Especially School of Rock, Spring Awakening and She Loves Me, and Hamilton of course was very good too. Some wonderfully touching speeches this year as well. How awkward was it when they showed Christopher Fitzgerald instead of Michael Arden in the Director of a Musical category though! Such a shame that he wasn't shown on TV. This production of Spring Awakening was so ingenious and honestly I believe it deserved more overall, so not showing him in the lineup was particularly terrible. Although obviously mistakes do happen sometimes! This was posted to instagram later... https://www.instagram.com/p/BGmYiUxLHii

Thanks for the links, that opening number was just what I needed to cheer myself up after a long day at work. Thrilled for Cynthia, she absolutely deserved that win - she gives one of the best performances I've ever had the privilege to watch in a theatre.
I have to admit I still don't entirely get the Hamilton hysteria, but I will reserve judgement until it comes here next October.

I think she's probably lost to Broadway in general really. Didn't she go to the US because she complained of lack of roles for black actors in the UK anyway? The fact that she has won a Tony at the first attempt, the raves she has received in the press and also that all four of the musical acting awards went to non-white actors means that she was justified in that somewhat, so why wouldn't she stay there? I also doubt that now she's done the show here and on Broadway will mean she's probably done with it after her run ends and she'll focus on new things. Still can't get over that God-awful ugly dress though.

Still can't get over that God-awful ugly dress though. Isn't she engaged to one of the leads in London's Aladdin (sorry the name escapes me)? I don't want to get into her personal life- but that seems like reason enough to not permanantly stay in the US.

She should continue playing Celie at least until December so I can see her, then she should record a solo album and promote it, for a few months and then open Hamilton in London as Eliza. Done.

Last I heard, she was definitely in a serious relationship with Dean John Wilson (who plays... well, Aladdin). Maybe they've got a game-plan involved where she'll stay on in the US and he'll wangle a transfer to the Broadway production after a while?

Been together for quite a while. Is it my ipad or have loads of the Tony clips been removed? Yesterday morning I watched Cynthia's acceptance speech and the opening number with James Cordon. Last night I settled down to watch more of the show only to find that almost everything apart from Opening number, Hamilton/Cordon bit and a couple of behind the scenes interviews had gone.
