Hi, I have a question I'm hoping someone here is able to answer...
What are the rules (if there is in fact a clear position) regarding using theare production shots/logos/promotional material online? I'm involved in a small project where it would be very handy if I could include a professional production photograph and/or the official production logo, but I don't want to get involved in any legal situation regarding copyright infringement.
I wouldn't be using it to sell a product, or mislead anyone into thinking I owned any rights or was affiliated with the production. I guess the closest example I can think of would be if I were to write an online theatre review or blog - would it be considered fair use to use a production shot and logo to accompany the review, or do you have to get permission/pay for each and every image used? And if it were a negative (but fair) review, would the producers be more likely to be difficult than if it were a positive review?
Any help would be appreciated.

Very simple: ask the copyright holder for permission. It is normally granted with pleasure if it is for non-commercial use. If you are using theatre photographs, you will need to credit the photographer (unless they state you don't). Logo use you will absolutely need to clear with the relevant marketing company - and a bit of strong advice is don't even attempt to tangle with the likes of Disney and Mackintosh. Both are decent companies, and if you treat them with respect, it will be returned tenfold. Disrespect, and they will act decisively. You don't pay for usage of images, they are given freely if you go about things the right way. You could argue "fair use" but really it is way better to ask. Regarding giving a negative review but using images, that's fine if it is honest, reasoned and balanced. If you are maligning their brand, then of course you would be asked to remove anything. PM me if you want to know more. Thank you very much @theatremonkey , that's exactly what I wanted to know. I appreciate your help.
