ATG venues closed until Sunday 17th January 2021, so this won't open before then.

Just out of curiosity, if Pretty Woman moves to the Savoy to fill the void of Sunday in the Park with George, then what's planned to go into the Piccadilly Theatre?

Do we think Pretty Woman is just going to reopen at the Savoy, or stay at the Piccadilly until it needs to leave for MR?

They would only get a run of 1-2 months in before they have to leave for Moulin Rouge, so I’d suspect they would just reopen at the Savoy if this is going to happen.

I wouldn't tweet it out but yeah – they're both ATG venues and it isn't like Pretty Woman has the heftiest set in the world (compared to MR which will need a LOT of get-in time)

I noticed the other day while walking through Soho that they'd taken the Pretty Woman marquee down off the Piccadilly Theatre...makes sense if it's moving.

Starting June/July. Whoop! Apart from the small fact it’s a terrible show! I doubt it’s an unlimited run. It’s probably just a season until Mean Girls is ready to go in.

The West End seems to excel at cheesy shows like 9-5, Fame, Dirty Dancing, Saturday Night Fever and maybe Grease. Is this show any different?

I just think that producers excel at turning recognised properties info feel-good tourist/non-regular theatre goer shows rather than coming up with new ideas that have a much higher chance of failing. It’s unfortunate that sometimes the cost of licensing the well known songs from things rip people off a bit as I’m pretty sure folks go in expecting to hear ‘King of Wishful Thinking’ and ‘It Must Have Been Love’. Transcending this with a great bit of MT is where we need to get to.

Yes, to get bums on seats it seems that well-known properties are understandably a safer bet. However, I think Fame, Saturday Night Fever and Dirty Dancing (not counting Grease because it WAS a stage musical initially that was filmed) lend themselves naturally to the stage because there's so much dancing in them. I don't see the need to translate "regular" movies to the stage, especially when it's a lame 1:1 adaptation that literally just slaps the movie onto the stage with a few mediocre new songs added. At least some stage adaptations like Billy Elliot manage to find new layers and I think those also do way better at the box office than the lame 1:1 adaptations. Pretty Woman was cheap dross on stage that let down Vivian especially and I think it won't run all that long once words get around how uninspired it is - was the same on Broadway. And will also be the same for Mean Girls, which didn't do well either on Broadway. Bring shows that are smartly written, that add new layers, make the stage version its whole own thing or that at least provide magnificent spectacle to enjoy live such as Moulin Rouge. I'm here for that, credit card in hand, but the Savoy Theatre won't see me for a while, which is just as well

SNF in particular has a terrible script, paper thin caricatures and the narrative drive of a 6 year old childs’ storywriting. But the Bee Gee’s terrific score was adapted to fit it and every time you can’t take it any more they bust out another classic tune and slick dance routine.

True, though haven't re-watched the movie only a few months ago, it really doesn't stand up well either, so it's not really the stage version's fault. And yea, it's definitely a show to enjoy for the music and dancing while ignore the dumb plot. Also, allow me to correct "6 year old child" to "6 year old boy"

Nah, I’ve had a girl child too...6 isn’t a classic storytelling age. x

... could Faye Brookes be doing a stint as Vivienne when this reopens? A clever nod on Dancing on Ice a few weeks ago if so.
