I'm just back from giving some talks in Mexico City, and there was The Play that Goes Wrong, Phantom and Cirque du Soleil. Just how many cirque productions are there in the world at any one time. I'm pleased for the success of Play but heck they are everywhere. I was fearing seeing that SIX had taken over mexico as well. Anyone know how many Plays/Wrong are there?

I’m not sure about The Play That Goes Wrong but there’s 5 productions of Hamilton playing at the same time in the US! 2 Tours, Broadway, Chicago and San Francisco.

I can report that it's currently done here in Cologne/Germany. I considered sending the old folks to see it.
I think its huge success is down to the fact that you rarely get this kind of farce these days and producers are glad to have a fresh one to do. Older ones are done to death and while I'm no expert, I wouldn't be surprised if many of them feel dated.

They say that they've played on every continent except Antarctica. The following countries are listed on Mischief's website: Argentina, Bulgaria, China, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Israel, Italy, Japan, Poland, Russia and South Africa but that list isn't exhaustive as it's definitely been in Australia and is still in the US and I'm pretty sure it's done Korea and at least a couple more European countries.
ETA: Wikipedia gives the following list, though as it includes "Scandinavia" as a country its accuracy has to be somewhat doubtful!

Oh, I'd be hopeless at marketing. I have no creativity. I'm just good at remembering/looking up facts for things I'm interested in.

Are all these productions adapted for their local market, or are they essentially carbon copies of the original?

I know someone has seen the Israeli production as well as the West End original and she told me that there were a number of changes made for the Israeli one, including the characters having different back stories. The Australian & US productions on the other hand, from what I've been told by people who have seen them, are pretty similar to the West End. I'd therefore hazard a tentative guess that the English language productions are probably close to the original but the productions done in translation vary more. I think Stasia has seen the Russian production as well as the original so perhaps she could give details of that?

Physical comedy has always travelled well - it's why Norman Wisdom was such a huge international star back in the day. And Mr Bean in more modern times.
I guess Cirque does well internationally for the same reasons - it's physical spectacle.

Obviously they have to change the things that otherwise would be lost in translation but I haven’t noticed any major changes in Russian production compared to the West End. We have the same director coming to direct it anyway
