There is a lot of emphasis on cooking fillings. I like a cake.

What is getting close to getting on the show? Baking auditions undertaken? Does Paul get involved? Tell us more I made the London auditions twice. Met Mary but not Paul at the first one. But the more recent ones was just researchers. Apparently I didn't have enough hot water crust experience.. A very long but fun and exciting process each time. Despite a producer in an early audition a few years ago when I last applied who was like she’d chewed a wasp nest and swilled out with lemon juice: third degree and more about my savoury danish which I’d not laminated enough: oh I still feel the viennoiserie shame 😀 But well worth doing. And was great to meet other very keen home bakers at audition rounds.

And the winner is.....not Steph who seems to have lost her confidence. Seems sad to have that happening so I hope they give her lots of support.

Slightly confused as I distinctly remember David saying in an earlier episode "my husband" but in the credits at the end of tonight's programme it said "David has moved in with his boyfriend".

It was a deserved win in the end.
Of the final 3, David is the only one I can imagine buying his cookbooks. He is also the only one I can imagine carving out a media career.
Alice is just the wrong side of quirky for me. Tips over into the annoying.
Steph just has confidence issues that are clearly an ongoing challenge for her. But hopefully that will change for her.
Not a great series but at least the result felt right on the basis of the final which hasn't always been the case.

He said partner a few times but definately said husband once as I remember thinking that's my chance gone then. 😁

Well the brother's off the market anyway. There was a run of episodes where he talked about his family and his Bulgarian-influenced bakes. He said his brother was married to a Bulgarian woman and David's boyfriend's Bulgarian... so I think the reference to his Bulgarian sister-in-law is where the confusion about them being married came from. I've only watched the whole of this current series in the last week, or I'd have forgotten as my memory's pretty hopeless.
Anyway... I felt really bad for Steph, I thought she was pretty much certain to win until she had a bit of a disaster in the final.
I'm glad David won and I hope we see more of him. Do they still go on to do other things or has the public interest faded a bit?

I suppose it depends on whether they are advised well, get an agent, that kind of thing. David is a nurse, so a big loss to us all in that respect if he decided to be a media chef. Maybe he can do something with hospital food 🤪

Henry is behind me on a train right now. I wasn't sure until he made a phone call which gave enough clues. I was going to ask if anyone had a message, but maybe best not..

He has an article in The Times where he denies dating Michael. The lovely Tamal who didn't win a few years back kept on working for the nhs, but still does nice recipes in the guardian now and then. I could see David doing a good balance of both.

I think we have sunk to new lows when papers are reporting on who the non winners of a baking show might or might not be “dating”.

Sandi Toksvig has quit then.
Not much of a loss as far as I’m concerned. Deeply unfunny and lacking in warmth. Now can we get rid of Pru too please? Delia Smith would be good!

I didn't mind Sandi, though I agree she wasn't the right foil for Noel - not sure who would be.
The Junior Bake Off team of Pru and Liam judging and Harry Hill presenting was really good this year. Harry was so off the wall with the kids he got them all giving bemused smiles whenever he turned up at their benches, but it kind of worked. Liam as a judge for the kids was brilliant - he was constructive and encouraging, without crushing their confidence.

Yeah, GBBO forgot the magic formula for judges is one nice one who connects with and empathises with the contestants, and one “mean” judge who gives the proper criticism. Prue is often harsher than Paul so they don’t play well off each other.

Also, Pru isn’t a cook. She’s in the food business. Restaurants, columns, cookery schools, tv judging. That’s the charm of Mary Berry, she comes across as being a home cook first and foremost.
How about ditching Noel and having Liam and Tom Allen do it with Paul H and Delia.
