If you ate going by tube it's a long walk back to Baker Street after the show as you have to go the long way around so factor in a 20 minute or so walk. Also it might feel lovely and warm at 7.30pm but once the sun goes down and you are sitting outside it gets chilly so a jumper or blanket are handy. Dont worry about a brolly as it NEVER rains.

When it’s not raining, how bad does the not raining have to be before they call it off?

When it’s not raining, how bad does the not raining have to be before they call it off? As long as the actors dont electrocute themselves or slide off the stage they keep going.

When I saw Jesus Christ Superstar the second year it was running, the Herod injured himself because it was so slippy.
It is a long walk from the station but it’s also a lovely walk before the show so give yourself time. Take a picnic if you can.

Take a picnic if you can. Taking picnics is BurlyBeaR's speciality. I don't know if it's the teeth or the sharp claws that scares people! 🐻🥪

As long as the actors dont electrocute themselves or slide off the stage they keep going. No refunds then! I think that if the performance is stopped due to bad weather once it has started then they will let you rebook for another performance and only refund if performance doesn't take place at all. Happened to me when I went to see Into the Woods. 2nd act cancelled but I was at the 2nd to last performance so couldn't rebook. But think you can see something the following season as long as you have your original ticket.

(Look who turned up uninvited, ate all the bananas and didn’t even bring a bottle)

Def take a blanket, coat and scarf even if 30+ in the daytime. Blanket can be sat on. Take food. Take food. Take food. Got that? Uber to the tube home.

I'm honestly amazed that people think it's a long walk to the tube afterwards! Really? I don't remember it taking more than 10 minutes or so, and it's mostly through the park.

Maybe they're counting from their seat to the tube, in which case people in the middle of a row may find it closer to 30 minutes. It can get awfully crowded when everyone's trying to leave through that one gate in the evenings.

In the old day, you just rolled up with your sarnies and your blankets and sat wherever you liked. And they continued through monsoons in front of just a couple in the audience until you couldn’t see the actors. Can’t help thinking something has been lost.

Maybe they should have a backup show like The Little Mermaid or something so the wetness makes sense. That, or Titanic. (Too soon?)

Glad you started this thread Burly as we're seeing Evita in a few weeks time, our first visit too so it's good to get some tips!

Toptip - Take a roll of bin bags. So if it rains you can lay them out on your seat and not get a wet bum.

And they continued through monsoons in front of just a couple in the audience until you couldn’t see the actors. Can’t help thinking something has been lost. They still continue plays in torrential rain. I remember seeing Love's Labours Lost (with a young Benedict Cumberbatch) when it was so windy I couldn't hear most of it from about the fifth row. But the problem is with dancing - when i saw On the Town they had to keep stopping to clear the water off the stage. They did carry on though. Actually cancellations are very rare but I imagine they can't continue in a major thunderstorm

If it has rained and you do not relish a wet seat, at the cafe there are paper napkins, pick up a few to wipe down the seat if you did not come prepared, came in useful last Saturday.
Do not leave it too late to get there, even though well signposted there is an opportunity to get lost.
It can get busy inside the Theatre, as long as you have your tickets relax in the park itself as there is much more space for your picnic, I usually aim to get to the Theatre once the seating area is open about 15 minutes before the play starts.

^Yep, a fiver each. Sort of very thin bin bag with a hood and holes for arms (no sleeves). Should even fit a bear.

I'll reinforce the advice to take layers - even on hot days it can get very cold once the sun sets, especially if it's windy. Also I usually take sunglasses as again, even if it's not a particularly bright day, once the sun starts to set it can really catch you if you're sat in the right (wrong?) place.

Apart from the bin bags tip (which I did last last time I went, it had rained all day so the seats were soaked, but it did stay dry for the performance) don't drink the coffee, it's horrible!

If your transport allows it, hang about in the bar after the show closes. Quite often the cast will come out to meet their friends and many don't seem to mind you saying hello or asking for an autograph. That was certainly the case for the Saturday evening shows I went to of Little Shop of Horrors and Into the Woods, but maybe I've just been very lucky.
