No idea how they will pull this one off - but full credit to them for trying

Also, having worked on a production of Lavery's adaptation of Treasure Island last year, I wish they had chosen a different writer. I don't think this will suit her at all.

I'm sure if it is even half as epic as HDM at the National then we're in for treat.

It is my favourite audiobook of all time.
There are some not so great sequences in terms of the writing but Michael Sheen does an incredible job with it.
just trying to create a flooded Thames valley for 2/3 of the narrative is one hell of a challenge

Does this mean they're finding it hard to find plays of sufficient quality to put on? As opposed to adaptations of novels? Their biggest successes have been monologues and Shakespeare, it seems to me.

Don't have a problem with them doing adaptations of novels but it does feel a bit like Hytner revisiting his greatest hits from the National again (History Boys / Allelulah, One Man Two Guvnors / Young Marx, His Dark Materials / La Belle Sauvage)

That’s a little unfair on The Bridge, they have debuted a number of new plays and they have Two Ladies coming in September

The Alan Bennett and Martin McDonagh I saw last autumn were weak, though. I enjoyed Richard Bean's Young Marx, but I doubt it'll ever be done again. Have they yet put on a new play that will be revived in thirty years' time? Isn't that the test of a new play's quality?

It is a purely commercial theatre so it needs hits. If he had programmed it like Rufus Norris does at the NT it would be closed already.

If it's immersive and has a former Game of Thrones cast member, all the better (Michelle Fairley > Gwen of Talgarth Road).

New plays are a crapshoot and you can’t expect a new theatre to strike gold straight away. Even the National doesn’t have a perfect track record, nor the Old Vic which are similar size wise

I don't care what they put on their posters, the Bridge has not done a single immersive piece of theatre.

I really like the book, and this is one that would definitely tempt me, depending on casting.

Have they yet put on a new play that will be revived in thirty years' time Depends how many shows Dame Maggie can do a week when she is 112, I guess... I’m sure there will be other actresses just as good as our Maggie, coming up from the middle aged invisibility depths. Well, let’s hope so. I mean, thingie Coleman could probably give this s decent go pretty soon and a couple of others .....but long life to Maggie Smith.

Pippa Nixon has the potential to be a theatrical star for many years to come.
She deserves a far larger profile - she has delivered very intelligent performances so far in her career.

I've just booked to take a 15 year old who finds theatre 'boring and pointless'. Nick Hytner and Bryony Lavery, I am placing a lot of weight on your shoulders: don't let me down. On the other hand I only went for the £15 tickets, so in case it is boring and/or pointless I've also booked Henry V at the Donmar - is either of these going to work for a bored teenager?

It's hard to say without knowing anything specific about these productions, but if they're a fan of Game of Thrones at least they'd be interested in seeing Kit Harington

Yes, I hope the Kit Harrington factor might help.

Has there been any casting info released now that this is starting up in December?
The £15 side seats at the Bridge were great the last couple of times I've been, curious how this staging will work to accomodate all the side seating as well! Considering just booking one and seeing how it goes, there are loads still available!
