What was the running time?
Looking to book the matinee next Saturday then going on to the Old Vic in the evening, looks like about ½ hour walk/train from Waterloo so should be achievable.

About 2 1/2 hours inc. interval. We made from the matinée there to a eve performance at the menier. It's a 30 ISH min walk from vauxhall station, depending on speed! |

The theatre will benefit the most from the Northern Line extension but that's two years away.

Good to hear the positivity, was always interested in seeing this and will now look to book. One question how was getting there by public transport? 15 minute walk from Sloane Square or three stops on the bus again from Sloane Sq. Getting there was easypeasy. The area has lots of nice looking restaurants, table tennis tables and Riverside views to help idle away the time. |

The park opposite is pretty enormous. I would also opt for Sloane Square + walk/bus becasue the tube there obv. plugs you right into the speedy central network.

Enjoyed this - not seen the play in any incarnation or the film, so knew nothing about the plot, which didn't go in the direction I expected. Matthew Needham was great although on the young side to be playing the main character in the last act. Ran about 2 hours 30 minutes - about 90 minutes for the first act (which was parts 1 and 2 of the trilogy) and just under an hour for the second act. Be interesting to hear from someone who has seen the full version what has been cut. Nice venue (thoughts on that here - theatreboard.co.uk/thread/6847/turbine-theatre) but I do think all tickets being £33 is too much for this sort of venue compared with £20 to £25 for the Union or Above the Stag etc. Oh and as terrylondon79 says, avoid rows B to D. |

Now booked, chose row E thanks to the advice on this post.
Was also surprised by the price, was expecting sub £30, Needham was just enough to entice me this time.

I thought this was excellent yesterday - all of the actors are great, Matthew Needham in particular, he's just brilliant. Strong chemistry across the board. I'm going to rewatch the Harvey film this afternoon and see how different it is.
Agree that £33 is a bit expensive for this type of venue, but the production is worth it and I was happy to help support a new theatre.
The view was fine from Row H, although I may go a bit further forward next time. No issues with legroom either.
I got the Tube to Sloane Square and then walked from there, which took about 20 minutes (but then I have really long legs!).

Agree this was excellent, a strong cast especially Needham making the trip out to Battersea worthwhile.
Not sure about the Theatre itself, currently in the middle of a soulless building site and with the current pricing strategy will need a strong programme to entice me out again.
After the play spent some time walking around the area taking the longer walk back to Vauxhall, judging by the establishments already open it is definitely a rich persons playground and could explain the pricing strategy, the Battersea General Store around the corner made Waitrose feel like a Pound Shop.

I'm surprised they haven't announced their next show, they're missing out on marketing to visitors while this one is running. I thought I heard the manager say something along the lines of 'we've got a musical coming next' but there's obviously a very strong chance that I either misheard, got the wrong end of the stick, or heard what I wanted to hear!
Also, a can of lemonade was £2. This is why I rarely buy drinks at theatres!

The bars and restaurants around there are OK and not that pricey - the noodle place was about £10 for a main course and the pub / microbrewery was better value at £5-ish for a pint of the same locally made lager the theatre are selling small cans of for £5!
Wonder if the rent on the place is unusually high given the nature of the development - ticket price might reflect this?

The announcement is coming, though if you want to know today, then this isn't exactly the most challenging puzzle I've ever had to solve.
They should really sort out their lead times though, it's less than seven weeks until 19th October, and people like me who like to book all their theatre as soon as seasons go on sale because that's a good way to get the most reliable cheap tickets will have had their October/November theatre slots booked up for probably months now. We'd be way more likely to go if they'd announce a season and give us time to sort it, dropping the info mere weeks in advance just ain't helpful for the forward planner.

Harvey Fierstein is a ingenious who made LGBT issues in the theatre popular and mainstream , but also done it with elan and beauty.
As with everyone on this board who saw this play, it was there first visit to the Turbine Theatre. This theatre is another Union or Charing Cross Theatre, that is set in a railway arch, the elephant in the room is that theatre has no business in a railway arch for obvious reasons.

I notice they are discounting the upcoming Nick Hornby / High Fidelity musical (£28 from £36) - it looks like the previews. Have also taken to calling the place 'The Turbine Theatre, West End', which seems to miss the point by two postcodes and a large river. Didn't enjoy this as much as I though I would. Never seen it on stage before. I love the play and the film, but this production wasn't very good. The set was ok but the acting left a lot to be desire making Act I really dull. Act II was a bit better. Glad I saw it though, it's such a wonderful play, but they should have tried a bit harder. 3 Stars
The venue looks nice but the seats are very uncomfortable and too close together. It's basically patio furniture with a little bit of padding. No armrests. A large size person will probably take part of your space. Not planning to go back unless they program something I'm dying to see.
