In a continuation of the "What do you have for breakfast"-thread, I'm intrigued as to peoples morning routines.
I wake up, check the time, take tablets. Then its straight to the coffee and with that I'll fire up a computer to check all social networks, including this one.
I don't feel like this is the healthiest of routines, particularly the going straight on a computer, but I have 0 interest in reading papers/magazines/watching news so this is the only real way to wake up slow, couldn't go straight into a reading a book.
Any interesting/different ideas? Whats your morning routine?

Radio alarm, usually 5.30-6.00 (Radio X in London, 6 Music at home) Usually lie there and listen for longer than I should Shower, get dressed Breakfast (see other thread!) Brush teeth
Then it diverges depending on where I am and what I'm doing. I do consultancy work either from home in Scotland or on site usually in London. So if at home:
(Pre-breakfast brisk 30-minute local walk) 'Commute' ie go upstairs to office and start work, by 8.30 latest.
If at London sites:
Go to either station or bus stop for commute and reflection on how glad I am that I very rarely have to do this.

If I'm working I will hit snooze for 10 mins then go and have a shower, get dressed, check I have everything in my bag (usually more than once!) and go. Have breakfast at work.
Not working, I lay in bed for a long time, look at my phone for ages. Get up to get a bowl of cereal and take it back to bed. Before I had a job which required getting up early the days off could see me in bed until 1pm easily but I tend to wake up and get up earlier now.

Wake up, perform inventory of body to see what hurts the most
Go downstairs, fondly remembering a time when I didn't shuffle step to step
Let dog out
Wee
Choose morning music
Tea
Look at internet to see what unbelievable dreadful thing has happened/been said now
Bemoan state of world, consider giving up social media as life was better before 24 hours news and knowing what fruit loops some people are
Tea
Feed animals
Tea
Consider what task I absolutely must do today before frittering away time as per
Tea

Alarm, snooze it for 10 minutes, get up. Shave, shower, coffee, get half dressed, toast + peanut butter + banana, clean teeth, check internet. Finishing getting dressed, pack bag (flask, bananas, water, phone, etc). Check bike tyres, jump on bike, commute approx. 8-9 minutes.
From first alarm to work place is 45 minutes.

Get up 7am Convince dogs I haven't left them in the night, let them out in the garden for a run Breakfast Check twitter Shower, brush teeth and dress Feed dogs Prep lunch (sometimes) Leave house 8am

Typical day at the moment is: Wake up 5:59, turn off alarm that will ring at 6:00. Check the Internet world on my phone. 6:10 get up, loo, shower, dress, check work stuff is in my bag and I've got my pass to get into work. 6:20 leave, arrive at work around 7. (Have breakfast at work or I'd need a little bit more time). Start times change but at the moment this seems to be the most common set of times.

I'm amazed at how quickly people get ready. I get up at 6am, have a bath, make lunch, make & eat breakfast, clean teeth. do hair, pack handbag, get dressed & by that time it's 7.45am & time to leave to get the train at 8am.

I'm the opposite, sometimes wonder how people need so long! I'd rather have more time in bed.

1. Wake up five minutes before alarm goes off. 2. Get up five minutes after alarm goes off. 3. Check news headlines, then 20-30 minutes of screaming. 4. A LOT of coffee.

I absolutely detest snooze buttons.
Some of the above comments remind me of David Lodge's description of Vic Wilcox's morning routine in Nice Work. He wakes up well before the alarm and can't get back to sleep because he's fretting about all the work stuff he has to deal with. He should probably just get up and steal a march on the day but he still just lies there wide awake. Finally the alarm goes but then, by some cruel trick of biology, he immediately feels drowsy and goes back to sleep!

To me the mornings are the best time of the day.
Wake up about 5;00, download the paper and a bit of social media, 20/30 minutes of exercise around 5:30, shower, breakfast, a bit of chilling either listening to /playing music or some reading, and look to leave the flat around 7:30.
Never been able to rush a morning, the silence and tranquility set up the day perfectly.

I think (probably) it's because if they are like me they have everything prepared the night before. Alarm 6.45 Bathroom while kettle is boiling - I even make sure the kettle is filled before I go to bed ( I shower the night before - mainly because my flat mate will have used all the hot water by the time I get up) Make tea and collect water & lunch from kitchen. Dress while drinking tea- clothes laid out the night before. I don't wear make up so there's a chunk of time saved. Pick up bag and go by 7.15 for 10 minute walk to train. Breakfast is eaten at work. We have a far nicer & bigger kitchen in the office than mine at home, plus we have breads, spreads, fresh fruit laid on for us.

Work- 5.40 alarm. Shave, wash, teeth etc 5.50- coffee, what ever breakfast item I can find ranging from toast, belvita bfast biscuits, a topic, a picnic or a banana. 6.10- leave for work to get there for 7. Today fine was 10 mins early but I have to navigate the collective hells of the M5, M4 and M32 to get me where I’m going so this varies wildly.

I really don't see why you would before as surely your victuals are then afflicted with mintyness.
I am also concerned as to the number of bananas that seem to be consumed by board members. Are you all relatives of our esteemed Monkey and if not can't you leave a few for him to enjoy?

I don't wear make up so there's a chunk of time saved. I don't wear make up either (apart from the occasional dab of concealer on spots). I'm still chronically incapable of getting ready quickly.

How sweet of you missthelma , to think of it, but don't worry - they are all friends and theatreboard family, and my own stocks are well guarded with plenty left over for all. As for the "before / after" teeth brushing, according to my dentist, you shouldn't brush for 30 minutes after eating, otherwise you will damage your tooth enamel. If you have to, make sure you swill water to neutralise the acids first, and even then, wait a few minutes. Ignoring this advice has you in the same position as me later in life - spending out on special toothpaste at £6.99 a tube (when on offer - I stock up, as it is £9.99 usually) to undo the severe damage done when I was "young then, and careless, me toothbrush was 'airless" as Pam put it. As you know, I can't bear bananas so at least that's one theatreboard family member less in the competition!
I for one am not going to get up at 5.30am just to leave half an hour between breakfast & teeth cleaning!
I've just read your blog post linked to on the previous page & was laughing out load at your toasting problems. Do you think switching to untoasted bread might be safer? Or have you already done that in the intervening years?

Depends if I'm going to the gym before work or not - if I am, then I will brush my teeth before leaving the house but not eat breakfast until I am at my desk after my workout - I can't eat anything before working out if it's first thing in the morning.
