Logged on to Netflix earlier to find Glee, all seasons, shoved under my nose. Stupidly I clicked play...
4 hours later I’m in a season 1 Glee-hole.
Was it good? Was it bad? Is it still relevant? Was it ever? What exactly WAS Glee?

I am unashamed to admit that for several years it was my guilty pleasure.
It was completely ridiculous in many respects but somehow it still had a lot of heart. And many of that cast really can sing, plus the guest stars were often incredible.
Seasons 4 and 5 are best forgotten, and season 6 only worth watching for the nostalgia of the last couple of episodes, but the first three seasons really were wonderful escapism TV while at the same time giving airtime to some really important topical issues for its target audience.

Glee is one of my favourite series ever, camp camp camp fun, amazing singers and hard hitting storylines when its needed. I've been watching a couple of episodes every day since it got added last week.

I loved it at the time and bought far too much of the music.
Don’t think I could rewatch it due to Mark salling’s crimes though.

That’s entirely your prerogative, but an attitude I really can’t get on with. Am I never to watch the magnificent ‘Usual Suspects’ or ‘Seven’ again just because Kevin Spacey is in them? Or listen to ‘Lost Prophets’ again because of their lead singers’ vile actions? Should the collectives that made these pieces of art be stained by the actions of one person for the rest of time?

I loved the early series. Loved. The Fleetwood Mac "Rumours" episode was - to my memory - sublime. I'm almost scared to re-watch in case I find it's crap.

It’s a gut reaction, I think. I don’t believe in Cancel Culture but if someone sees Mark Salling’s face and the spectre of him collecting child porn haunts them, then why should they watch it? It’s not like jaqs said that he said Glee should be erased from iTunes and everyone who watches it should be burned at the stake.

I worked with someone who I trusted who was sent to prison for indecent images and a whole host of horrible actions, it was actually very difficult to process and so yes I’ll avoid Glee and Lost Prophets and other things that now creep me out.

It was meant as the jumping off point for a discussion, hence the question mark at the end, so all points of view are welcome.

I was a Gleek! I have the CS's and even went and say them at the O2 when they came to London.
Have you got to the episode (I think it'd the Fleetwood Mac/Rumours episode) where Mr Shue asked the question "Who knows what a ballad is?" and Britney answers "a male duck?". Classic!

90% you’re laughing at the ridiculousness of it, then Ryan Murphy punches you in the gut with Sue Sylvester and her sister, or Rachael Berry and the paraplegic football jock.
I just realised how many episodes of this there are. #daunted

I'm also currently on a re-watch since it was added to Netflix! Still on Season 1, but I forgot just how clever and witty the writing was back then. I'm currently on 'Vitamin D' and the mash-up of 'It's My Life/Confessions' is still one of my favourite performances. I haven't seen Season 6 as it went so downhill I stopped watching but I might watch just to see how it all ended. Although I am finding it quite sad watching now knowing Cory Monteith's fate as I was a big fan of Glee around 2011/2012 and I was devastated when he passed away.
