Olivia was almost certain to get something this year after her winning her Oscar. SRB's knighthood was always on the cards too in due course.
There seems to be a slightly scattergun approach in which BAME actors or actresses get awards, often it seems to be people who are flavour of the month, taking nothing away from Cush or Sheila but names like Marianne Jean-Baptiste, Adjoa Andoh, Hugh Quarshie, Derek Griffiths who have had much longer careers are as deserving IMO.

We don't know if these people haven't already declined nominations. Most royal honours are awarded only after a long nomination and selection process - it can take years and the nominee can decline the offer. There are a few that are awarded directly by the Palace , but most are through the nomination process. |

That was certainly the rumour, in fact he was even listed on the Wikipedia page of people who've declined honours (not that that's gospel, of course!) And it was what I used to comfort myself with every time another honours list rolled round without his name, especially one that did contain one of his contemporaries, Branagh and Rylance in particular. Who knows? Perhaps he thought he was too young before! Perhaps he's seen that it gives you extra clout/money in the States and/or film industry. I don't really care now 😄😄😄 |

There have been rumours about people turning down honours then accepting them years later or not wanting letters before their name like the late great Paul Schofield.
Some honours do take a long time to be approved but others after a major success can be awarded quickly.
Not exactly a theatre honour but Gina and Mazz Murray's dad - Mitch was made a CBE for contributions to music. He wrote a load of well known songs in 1960's and 1970's.
