Too many episodes now and a complete collapse in quality. So many errors they have not got time to fix and story lines left mid plot. Is Rita still in hospital after her brain surgery? No-one seems to have mentioned her or visited in weeks? Perhaps she has died?
Goodness knows how they are going to cope with Bruno Langley being sacked - no more happy family with the Rev Billy and adopted kid. Poor Eileen will lose another son overnight!!!
I really should not watch anymore.....
What helpline do I phone "if you have been affected by any of the issues in tonight's programme" such as bad acting, writing, direction and plotlines?

In my opinion 6 episodes a week are too many. Four well written episodes would be much better as a busy schedule means a bigger cast especially as a number of them are elderly now. How they write Todd out I don't know?

Eileen Derbyshire is now 87 years old, I have no idea what her current health is like but would she return for much more than a cameo I wonder.
Bill Roache is 85, Barbara Knox 84, Maurice Hebden nearly 78, Sue Nicholls nearly 74 and you have a lot of other very long serving cast members who might not want heavier work schedule and who must be fairly comfortably off, so a lot could easily leave over the next few years.

When someone in their mid 80's takes a 6 month break, you always wonder if they will return. I'd say personally if it was going to happen it would have done so by now as Corrie wouldn't have given her big storylines. They could have filmed her scenes in blocks, had her sitting down etc if she cannot be on her feet for a long time, you can hide a lot on screen.

As far as I'm aware Eileen Derbyshire has retired and Emily will not return.

I liked Emily. Emily Twin-set, Vera once called her! Upright and moral with her strong faith, she was never afraid to open her eyes, her ears and her mind to ‘new ways’, as long as she saw good in someone or something. We’re bereft of someone like this in the street now.
If she has indeed retired, I wish Eileen Derbyshire well, but it’s a little sad that such a Long Server wasn’t given a farewell episode or has not received a special tribute programme.

I think that’s likely to be true, monkey. I read a little about her after posting yesterday, and found out that her son is Oliver Holt, the sports journalist, who defends his mother against claims of her being a recluse. He says she is simply a quiet person who enjoys her privacy...

As far as I'm aware Eileen Derbyshire has retired and Emily will not return. I am sure that within the past few months Emily's return was trailed in one of the many announcements about Corrie that intrude into my Apple iPhone via Google from Digital Spy and other such publications, but some of these events just never seem to happen.

I think Emily's departure from the show epitomises how shoddy the show has become. A long serving, much loved character written out to go to Peru of all places. I suppose at some point a cast member will have the task of getting a phone call to say that she has fallen off a mountain or eaten by cannibals or something equally ridiculous!

Emily will have to die, as a character, at some point and I just wish that could be on-screen, as the character has too much history to be off-screen. Even if it was to be the standard coming back from travels and passing away (as with Deidre and Blanche), it could be as simple as the taxi arriving on the street, people going to greet Emily and initially think she's sleeping and has passed away quietly on the way home.

After Luke's sad demise, leaving the garage with staff shortages, not to mention a further health and safety hazard in the form of his shrine in the corner (is it a good idea to light candles in a garage with all that fuel? You'd have thought there have been enough catastrophic fires in one street by now but anyway...) Tyrone was left in charge of recruiting a new mechanic on Friday. The interview was conducted in the Rovers' back yard so you knew it was going to be a tough one for the only candidate. "Boxers or briefs?" Tyrone asked, and he was given the job based on his preference for boxers.
I'm still not sure whether Tony Warren is smiling or cringing in his grave...

It’s getting silly now the extra show had taken its toll silly stories some dropped halfway through and fizzle out or carried on too long .... did they ever find the lap top ? Phelan going on way too long .... and now the blood brothers routine with Eva’s baby ,..... Corrie needs a new boss and writers Oh and put some water at least in those obviously empty coffee cups everyone keeps drinking !!!!!

I agree totally with drowseychap and the theatremonkey. The current writers and producers of Corrie don't seem to be too bothered about continuity or facts or even common sense with some of the story lines they have foisted on us recently. I still continue to watch in a half-hearted manner but I am sure it is getting worse and it makes me very sad.
As to epileptic David going into a boxing competition, well that's just to set up a storyline about male rape (sorry if that's a spoiler – it has been trailed endlessly for the past few weeks in the media) which I rather feel for a soap that goes out before the watershed is a totally unsatisfactory subject anyway.

After I'd spent all morning donkey stoning front step, I read in't paper yesterday that this somewhat sleepy backwater of Weatherfield is to get not just a branch of the Co-op, but also a Costa. I've not watched for years, but the latter, in particular, seems unlikely in that location.

I've not watched for years, but the latter, in particular, seems unlikely in that location. I read somewhere that the arrival of a Co-op in Weatherfield is going to be a major blow to the Kabin, but surely it is Dev who will suffer most, particularly as it is intimated from time to time that his prices are rather high. And what about Roy's Rolls when Costa arrives? It has always seemed to me that the whole idea of Weatherfield exists in a kind of time warp – take the Rover's Return for a start! Have we ever seen Freshco's? I remember that nasty manager woman was frozen to death inside a freezing room at the store but I can't ever remember actually seeing the shop itself. Nick's Bistro has never felt entirely comfortable to me and to bring in real shops like the Co-op and Costa is surely allowing reality to infringe unnecessarily on what is otherwise a world of its own! Do we ever see real life in EastEnders? Even the tube station looks like a fantasy. Just wondering!

Do we ever see real life in EastEnders? Even the tube station looks like a fantasy. Just wondering! Blue Co-op bags made an appearance a couple of weeks ago, which I thought was odd, and was it last Friday or Monday that we saw three Costa cups rear their ugly heads?! Now I’m pretty sure that we saw an Accessorize bag as well recently so no doubt they will be opening a branch nearby too! With regard to Freshco’s, I think we used to see it when it was known as Bettabuys (sp??) because Hayley first appeared there. We’d already had Reg and Curly working there. They used to march up and down the aisles looking important. (Didn’t Alma do a stint there too, and didn’t she introduce Hayley to Roy?) I like the Bistro and often comment to Annas that if it were at the end of our street, we could go there for once a week treats. It feels cosy to me, although it clearly doesn’t belong at the end of Coronation Street. And while we’re at it, do the sets keep getting BIGGER AND BIGGER?!?

Well-remembered Caiaphas. I have had long periods when I never saw Corrie for years on end so I am sure you are right with all that detail about Freshcos.
As to the sets, yes, they are indeed getting bigger and bigger. I believe they moved the basic filming set several years ago and they are now in the process of enlarging it, as you rightly say.
As to the Bistro, I feel uncomfortable because it can't quite decide whether it is a restaurant, a bistro or a kind of drop-in bar that is happy to serve glasses of wine or cups of tea and coffee at any hour of the day or night when we already have the Rovers and Roy's Rolls for that. I am also worried at the small tables that sometimes have four people struggling to squeeze into a space barely adequate for two diners, but I suppose that's dramatic licence.

I wonder if they will do the David Platt male rape storyline whereby he is drugged and effectively "date raped". When I read they where doing the storyline, I wondered if they they might go all out and have someone get ultimate retribution on Phelan that way. Maybe Gary Windass gets a couple of old army mates to do it or help do it - always stories that some Para types have done that to each other to sort of pecking order like they do in male prisons. Or even if you wanted to go really dark, have Phelan think that it might have been Seb who is HIV positive or Seb knows what has happened to Phelan and hints he may have been behind it. Phelan is totally broken and confesses all.
Emily going to Peru was stupid, why not just say she has gone to stay in Mavis.

The Co-op and Costa is all about lucrative product placement.
Those poor actors now have to not only know their lines and hit their marks but ensure that the Costa coffee cups are held facing the camera! It's known in the industry as a triple threat!

Emily going to Peru was stupid, why not just say she has gone to stay in Mavis. Because that would be bizarre. Emily is back and looking after her niece Freida. She was the deaf character who used to appear every now and again.
