ALW's Cinderella - Gillian Lynne / U.K. Tour (rumour)

Think this sounds gorgeous - really gentle lovely emotional melody. Reminds me a bit of some of the 'new' ballads in the DVO version of Tell Me.

It is very inline with the way ALW writes these days - since new Tell Me, Woman in White, new Wizard of Oz, Stephen Ward and even to an extent Love Never Dies have a similar feel.
I think people expecting bangers and key changes may be disappointed as we've not really had that style since pre and up to Sunset.

But anyway, am personally very excited about this :-)

They just released a Spotify playlist called “Badass B*tch”, one of the songs are “Mad at Disney” while the rest are explicit or very rock/ teenage sort of music. Anyone sure this show is actually going to be family friendly? Their marketing definitely isn’t.

I did hit Stop about 90 seconds in, I will admit!

It is a dreadful song. Doesn’t go anywhere, repetitive clunky chord sequences, old school ploddy Andrew Lloyd Webber (of which I’m a fan). His music falls into two categories genius (Evita, Sunset) and cheesy pop song nasty.

In other news - Cinderella has been taken off sale and will be postponed AGAIN, (I expect Frozen and Back to the Future to follow).

Just checking, but after reading that article, Hope is her middle name isn't it? So when they refer to her by surname it should just be Fletcher. They've written it as if it's a double-barrelled surname.

The chorus sounds like a cross between In My Own Little Corner (Cinders reference, I like it) and Loch Lomond (huh?).

I love Carrie, she’s great. But god ALW is very out of his depth it seems. It’s as if he’s trying to cater to younger audiences by mimicking the sound of & Juliet/Six but it’s just not really working. I can’t put my finger on it but it just sounds like someone trying so hard to be edgy/cool.

I have many questions. Why is he wearing an anorak? How much scaffolding is in that wig? Why wouldn't you move the shoes before filming? Where does he get his curtain material from, and could I afford it?

Predictably I guess but I really rather like it. Catchy, classic structure, key change, big ending! What's not to love!

Also chuffed to see it's a double CD so hopefully more sung through than School of Rock and Stephen Ward were.

If ALW had another JCS/Evita/Phantom/Sunset to give us, I think he'd have done it by now - it really is daft to expect that.
I'd say the last 10-15 years or so would give an indication of what sort of thing we'll get. Whilst his most epic work may well be behind him, IMHO he remains a fantastic composer. And when this new original British corona delayed musical finally lands, I'm gonna be all there for it. Can't wait!

He can still write a tune if he puts his mind to it, but he's trying way too hard to be relevant.
