Moment of Triumph is just as horrendous as I remembered it. The whole score is. So Long is also unbearable as is the overlong song between the stepmother and queen which has no payoff. All the shows flaws are even more apparent on the recording. The whole Godmother midnight thing makes even less sense. CHF fades into the background in an unlikeable and dramatically barren role.
The critics are rightfully going to rip this to shreds.

Gosh, they really did think that Helen George was gonna play the Queen eh? Cause the cast recording cast is pretty much the show cast apart from her... I think she was definitely going to be in it (when it was meant to run) but she's expecting a baby now.

Does anyone else think that "I Know You" (the Stepmother-Queen duet) sounds just like "The Countess and the Common Man" from Anastasia? Maybe it's just me...

For all those spouting bile about this show, there are more who seem to love it judging by the scores in the poll. The difference is, those who love it don't profess to do so on a daily basis. Some folk seem to revel in wanting to pour cold puke over this show, desperate to see it fail. I hope those who dislike it so much might find something more positive in their lives that they might grow to love and share their views about, instead of peeing on others' bonfires by continually trashing a show that is nowhere near as bad as some like to make out. And, once again, everybody is entitled to an opinion whether we agree with it or not. I am not seeing anything of what you describe from posters and I sense you are somewhat emotional in your responses to any sort of criticism, as in the Phantom thread. What you perceive as negativity are concerns which are valid in the minds of people who hold them. We must remember that. I don't see anyone "spouting bile" or "constantly trashing" the show. I see a wide variety of opinions and welcome them all. The point you make about the ratings in the poll is entirely redundant, as you know just a few pages back somebody joined on multiple new accounts just to rate the show 5*'s, having admittedly not seen the show, just because they are a ALW fan. But I suspect you were being intentionally tongue in cheek there. I hope. It would be very annoying for you, I'm sure, to have someone constantly calling you negative just because you don't like something that they do. Are you supporting England in the football? No? Well that's "negative". TL;Dr. I'm sorry not everybody agrees with you. I'll make up my own mind when I see the show myself. If I don't like it and say so, that doesn't make me the catch-all "negative".

While many members of this board have pointed out (valid) concerns, just going off audience reactions in the theatre, people seem to be loving the show.
I’m expecting reviews that lean negative, but praise the cast, and for the show to be a financial success in the long run. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.

It was bugging me - thanks!

Takes all sorts - not sure I could be bothered to go to that effort, despite liking the show. I'd rather see a poll that reflects true sentiment rather than something that has been manipulated.

I got the hight stakes of Midnight really clearly from the song as recorded (though seeing it discussed here, maybe I was looking out for it). I like the twist - feels like a layer of darkness the Grimm brothers might have gone for (though their foot cutting was admittedly quite full-on already!).

Am looking forward to seeing it next Sat eve. Emailed LW theatres to check our booking is still as booked or if we have been moved to a later performance (as was the case with Phantom). So a foodie afternoon followed by a show….I can’t wait for that combo at last! Bettered only by a two show day (with fab meal in between!). Now if I can just fit in In The Heights at the cinema early afternoon……

I'd rather see a poll that reflects true sentiment rather than something that has been manipulated. I tend to cancel out the 5s and 1s against each other, presuming there's been a bit of exaggeration both ways! (I know that some shows are legitimately 5*/1*, but in that case the 5*s/1*s would massively outweigh the 1*s/5*s).

What isn't clear is why. And ultimately it doesn't even affect anything because (for those who have seen it...) {Spoiler - click to view} the real stakes in the lead up to midnight as a deadline focus on the announcement of the prince's bride. At midnight, he will be betrothed. That's her cutoff point. That's what we're focused on. Then when the clock strikes twelve it all becomes rather jumbled and messy - the Prince and the stepsister literally take center stage, with Cinderella stood to the side, and her ripping of her wig and outfit reads like a direct reaction to seeing him kissing her stepsister. It doesn't really connect to the Godmother's warning earlier on at all, and simply looks as if she's having a tantrum

But I think now I’ve been able to read the lyrics the midnight stuff now makes more sense to me. It’s just then not executed particularly well when it happens.

I don't think I have ever been more disappointed in a OCR in terms of presentation
Really poor booklet with most of the text completely illegible because of the size and colour choices. Did they not run the design by someone from an accessibility perspective?
The lack of synopsis is unforgivable. The lack of lyrics is regrettably.
The use of the fold out double CD case is bad as well. The plastic chosen is v low quality
Overall a very poor showing. I would have been happier paying an extra couple of quid for a decent booklet and case.

I feel really bad for anyone taking their little kids to this expecting a Disney show. There should be more age guidance on the website to make it clear it’s not a kid’s show, especially with what tickets cost. Though Mischief Movie Night In has age guidance on it of 11+ and people still show up on the zoom videos with little kids, so I guess that’s not much help. I also remember reading on here about a family that took their kids to see The Inheritance… What did your girls make of it ceebee ?

Good god it’s worse than I feared. I listened to it earlier and my mouth was agog. Witless and an absolute grab bag of music styles that don’t gel.
Really put me off bothering to see it now.

Going for a second round this evening! I hope I get the understudies - although unlikely for a Friday night
I have been listening to the recording all day so that I am more familiar with the plot, and can therefore focus on the shirtless dancers

The score really is sh*t though! I say: go see the show for the comedy (Victoria), few good ballads, magic Mike sections, rotating stalls, gay marriage (marry for love) and Ivano's earth-shattering heavenly tone !

Some of the songs are really growing on me. But the plot still feels like a Made In Chelsea/Crown mash up. With a bit of Nip/Tuck thrown in for good measure!

Only four new members have voted in the poll. (There are quite a few showing up as "new members", but most of them joined a long time ago but haven't posted much.) Those four span three different ISPs and two continents, which seems like a lot of effort to rig a meaningless poll.

Group of three girls next to me in the circle asked to be moved to with their friend (sitting separately in circle) to the central stalls, and the ushers arranged it!
Nice ticket upgrade methinks
