The word "cringeworthy" springs to mind... not for the first time.

I actually quite like the idea of getting to see some of the characters, and their costumes etc.
If they'd put up something like "It's nearly Easter and Belleville's baker (played by Andy Rees) has been busy baking hot cross buns for the whole town to enjoy!", and then next week did something like "Belleville's florist (name) is enjoying the warm weather and has been cutting Spring flowers to make beautiful bouquets for all the residents. <flowers emoji>" with pictures of them in costume I'd have liked it, especially if they came with snippets of singing or dancing too.
Talking about his hot buns is a bit hen party-esque.

It smacks of that ITV Loose Women mentality where they’d have topless blokes coming on with birthday cakes and Denise Welch or Jane McDonald shouting “Ey look at this girls!” at the audience.
Crass.
The marketing for this show has been generally very poor. It seems to be generating more negativity than positivity.

I find it strange & sexist that this sort of thing, objectifying men, is still considered acceptable by the some of the same people, including the media, who consider objectifying women to no longer be considered acceptable. To have secxual equality surely it has to be acceptable to either objectify both sexes or (preferably) neither.

The marketing is for this show is so odd I actually want to see it just to see how everything hangs together.
Starting to wonder if that's the idea!

I still cannot fathom why they haven’t improved the show artwork for this yet? It looks like it’s been created by a child in the Paint software. Aesthetics are important for me, and I can’t believe they’ve looked at that for over a year and still not thought “Damn, we need to change that.”

I wouldn't hold your breath, Phantom's been running for 35 years with a style of mask that was never worn in the show on the poster...

I was just mooching about the Internet looking for goss about the show and blow me down if ALW hasn’t been up to his old tricks again. Turns out the chorus of Bad Cinderella and R&H’s In My Own Little Corner are veeeeeeeery similar. Naughty Andrew!

I think that you can homage something but ALW has been so pretentious this entire time 'MY CINDERELLA,' as if it's something ground breaking, I think that is what irritates me more. You've R&H Cinderella and Soho Cinders (the latter is a little dated but still so much fun, didn't see the Charing Cross production but saw the same version at the Union) On that ITV musicals programme, he called Carrie, 'a girl.' She's a woman. It's creepy. STOP. Another thing that popped into my head...if the most they can do is costume Carrie as if she's reprising Wednesday Addams and by adding boots that makes her 'alternative' or a bad Cinderella...It's just not that inspiring, I would say that's pretty normal fashion? It's a hot mess, it's muddled...this whole BELLEVUE marketing gimmick now.... I wish this was a play - I could have seen a similar concept to Home I'm Darling actually, the whole 'perfect' life but then the cracks show. I GET what Emerald is saying in her soundbyte, I think she comes across eloquent but I wish ALW was out altogether. I AM FRUSTRATED AS IT HAS THE POTENTIAL TO BE GOOD BUT ALAS. Ok, brb, having a drink.

Number of followers on Twitter: Andrew Lloyd Webber's Cinderella - 5,543 Andrew Lloyd Webber - 215,300 Carrie Hope Fletcher - 495,600 And yet employers seem to be blind to the amount of interactions CHF gets across SM. She may have half a million followers on Twitter but barely scraped 6 comments with her last tweet. Follower interaction across both platforms is poor. The numbers just don’t add up. You would expect a shed load more interactions from the amount of ‘fans’ /followers she has. Similar story over on Instagram although she receives more ‘likes’ over there it’s still not in proportion to the amount of followers. 🤔

I've come to the conclusion, based on everything I've seen and read, that this really isn't going to be for me. I normally keep an open mind about new hit shows, and avoid too much exposure to them so I am seeing a show fresh. It's certainly not a show I'd want to pay £100 for (mind you, there really aren't any of those, in fairness!).
I'm not really into shows about "issues", where the issue being discussed is the raison d'etre for the show. By this, I'm thinking of the likes of SiX, or Everybody's Talking about Jamie. If I see a show, I ideally don't want to see a musical theatre version of an angry social justice lecture, whether I support the point made or not. Shows like "Next to Normal" and "Rent" prove how to tastefully discuss themes, while keeping the experienced centred on the narrative.
This strikes me - and I could be wrong, it wouldn't be the first time - as a product which is being specifically tailored a particular audience. Wicked uses themes of sisterhood, individuality and feminism beautifully, and found what I suspect will be the same core fanbase as this show.
Lloyd Webber loves to feel like he is moving with the times, a particularly progressive white billionaire Lord. He has always been about pastiche, he approximates musical styles from the zeitgeist and then has them orchestrated beautifully for him. Often to brilliant effect.
This whole concept feels like pandering to me.
Also, not a fan of the cringey marketing campaign. The guy with the buns (get it, buns?) in particular. Given the whole angle here seems to be "it's 2021, non-binary, veganism!" seems blatantly hypocritical to me.

The Hot Buns Guy sung version is back http://instagram.com/p/CNKNJQflhWx Nothing against the actor (you work with what you have) but cringing so hard at the content. The tongue emoji... The promise/threat we will get to see ‘much, much more of him’ - we’re back to Magic Mike Cinderella vibes again aren’t we 😂 A few people commenting not appropriate but I suspect those comments will probably be removed soon.

I also find it offensive, as the buns presumably contain gluten which is massively prejudiced against those with coeliac disease. I once knew someone with coeliac disease and I am outraged on their behalf. Absolutely no consideration for the disabled.

And I'm looking forward very much to the female sommelier character singing about her huge rack. "Nice rack, I've got a huge rack!". Make it happen ALW.

So. Yeah. Not only does she not admit her own privilege, she can’t even be bothered to be creative. Tiresome.
