I'm a bit surprised at the Sea Witch song going — it was supposed to be on the highlights album and in the song book. It sounds like it might be really quite good after a bit of tweaking. I hope everybody who went had a lovely night back in the theatre.

I’ve just had a thought - did I zone out and miss it or did we not have the sea witch song that was mentioned in one of the videos a while ago? I was thinking that, it wasn’t in the song list so it must have been cut. I wonder where it would’ve fit in the show OMG! YES!! I had forgotten about that, BUT, that's exactly what they implied with the Godmother, but it went nowhere. Its what i put in my notes !!

About the Godmother {Spoiler - click to view} In order for Cinders to go to the ball, she asks for something in return, and Cinders gives her the only thing she has that reminds her of her mother, a necklace. It was very much 'I don't want much, except your voice'

[And would the Queen really say that her son was well endowed??.
Ok so is there an age suggestion on this show.? [?br]From the descriptions so far there’s gonna be a lot of annoyed parents! Even though ALW has flogged the ‘this is NOT the Cinderella you’re expecting’ to death, people will still come expecting Disney princessy faff

I'm a bit surprised at the Sea Witch song going — Don’t worry it’ll turn up in a future show 😉 ALW the King Of Recycling

I deleted my post as I checked the programme - thanks. The more I think about it, the more I think the second half will get a fair amount of reworking. The slow wedding is just crap direction from LC - it's like all the effort was invested in the ball sequence. It could be spectacular by opening night and probably will be but some of what is a very familiar story still needs signposting.
Musically, there was a hell of a lot of pre-programmed stuff - sound was polished, but it does provoke the argument on the Phantom thread about real music/orchestras versus programmed keys with a few instruments to add depth.

There’s a LOT of innuendo, as well as characters calling each other such things as Pr**k and bitch. It’s clearly not meant as a particularly children friendly show, but I’m not sure the marketing has emphasised that enough.

He has autism and the combination of light and sound gave him a really immersive experience. His mum was lovely too - even bought me a beer! I'm taking my daughters (10 / 12) in a couple of weeks - tbh Shakespeare is bawdier imho. I found some of the puns funny but others crass. Definitely not a show for Tallulah to twirl in her sequined dress though.

{Spoiler - click to view} Just some thoughts and info on some of the numbers
Buns 'n' Roses - Yeah this is very much Who Will Buy with none of the excitement. It's used to introduce us to BelleVille and set the scene for Prince Charming being adored by everybody and Sebastian being a complete disappointment.
Bad Cinderella - I really enjoyed this. However this must be so difficult for Carrie to sing. She's dragged all over the place during this. At one moment she's being carried as if shes crowd surfing and the next she's being dragged along the floor by her hair. All with her ending up being tied to a tree by the end of the number.
Unfair - The Stepsisters song. I thought this was really nice and performed well by both Georgina and Laura. They were both really good in the whole show.
Man's Man - Big male ensemble number about how Sebastian should be more like Prince Charming. Fabulous!
Only You, Lonely You - I've said it already but this was beautiful. Ivano's voice was so perfect for this.
Beauty Has A Price - Final song of Act 1 with the Godmother. This was good but it could and should be better. Someone else mentioned that Gloria deserved more and they're right. It just doesn't hit the highs that it totally could.
Act 2 The Cinderella Waltz - It was during this that the seating moved. A lot of spinning choreography as the stage span with them.
I Know I Have A Heart - Beautifully performed by Carrie. Theatre is still in the round at this point with just Carrie on stage.
Far Too Late - Again another really beautiful song I think.
The Wedding March - Essentially an instrumental of Marry For Love. This needs cutting down a lot. Currently about 5 different people walk down the aisle one at a time very slowly. It's slow. It's awkward. It's unnecessary.
Marry For Love - Starts off as a solo by Prince Charming before everyone joins in.

Fascinating to read all these accounts. If possible could someone please put up a synopsis of the plot?

My thoughts on Act 2 The Ball needs to be much shorter and more focused. Cinderella is recognised just for THAT reason?? And how would SHE know anyway?? Seeing as it was the big cliff hanger for Act 1, we need to know what the penalty is for not being home by midnight The wedding March should be cut Prince Charming gets cut down to 2 or 3 lines (cut Mans Man reprise) Cinderella's Soliloquy needs something better than just reprising the same tunes she sang earlier The Godmother should come back on stage for a better reason than to walk across the stage to give something to Sebastian And a better ending than the wrap up in 2 or 3 lines it currently is.
It really does seem that all the focus has been on Act 1 and Act 2 was thrown together rather quickly.

Fascinating to read all these accounts. If possible could someone please put up a synopsis of the plot? {Spoiler - click to view} It starts with BelleVille preparing to win the most beautiful town award for something like the 49th year in a row. They're mourning the loss of Prince Charming and have erected a statue in his honour. They clearly adore Prince Charming and see Sebastian as a disappointment. However when the statue is unveiled it is covered in Spray Paint. The townsfolk know who did it immediately and go hunting for Cinderella and tie her to a tree. Sebastian comes along and rescues her and it's established that they've been friends for years and clearly have feelings for one another. The Queen decides that the best thing for the town would be to hold a royal wedding and they must hold a ball for Sebastian to meet someone. Sebastian is now treated a lot differently by the townsfolk who suddenly adore him now that he's the heir to the throne and looking for a bride. Cinderella decides that the only way she could get Sebastian's attention is if she becomes "pretty" like everybody else and goes to see the Godmother. Cue Cinderella makeover song and end of Act 1.
The ball starts and of course the stepsisters are there trying to win over Sebastian. Cinderella arrives and is now getting a lot of attention from everybody particularly the men. When she finally is able to dance with Sebastian he doesn't recognise her and just dismisses her as being another bimbo woman who doesn't actually love him. She doesn't realise this and thinks that Sebastian doesn't love her like she thought he did. One of the stepsister Adele swoops in and kisses Sebastian and the Queen proclaims that they are to be married. Cinderella has a bit of a meltdown tearing off her dress and wig and leaves the ball. She decides she's going to run away and leave Belleville behind but after talking to her other Stepsister she decides to try and stop the Wedding. Cue the long Wedding Scene. Prince Charming shows up to stop the wedding. His entrance made me jump out my seat! He proclaims that he left because he was to be married to someone he didn't love and couldn't go through with it. And he has retuned with someone he truly loves. And it's a man. We then have Prince Charming's wedding scene and Cinderella shows up too late and hearing the bells thinks that Sebastian has been married. She decides to continue with her plan of leaving Belleville. Big party scene takes place and then Sebastian goes looking for Cinderella. He finds her and says he wants to go with her on her travels. They profess their love with a lot of kissing. And they all lived happily ever after.
There's a lot of finer detail I've missed out but that's the general plot. If I've got anything wrong please correct me.

Though I’ve been moved from the spinning seats - I can’t wait for Wednesday.
I’ve always said that the title should be BAD Cinderella.
I think as per ALW they will open it but will close it in 8 month time and make changes. Either that or future productions will be hacked at with things added/cut.

Thanks for the detailed plot summary, stuartmcd.
So, now we know! I will be curious to see what changes are made during the previews. Sounds like Act II needs a fair amount of editing. Surprised about the Sea Witch song being cut entirely already, I was so intrigued by that.

What was the running time last night? I’m going to the matinee and wondering how long I’ll have between that and my evening show.

Surprised about the Sea Witch song being cut entirely already, I was so intrigued by that. To make room for the seven hour wedding march maybe? Also Andrew has always made it known how he wrote a song as an audition to do the music for The Little Mermaid - maybe it was one he had in the bank already? I’m getting Gaston vibes from all this man’s man hunks gym posts. Is PC a fully rounded character or a closeted gay man restricted by societal norms waiting to go to the Mardi gras? Also the description of Bad Cinderella sounds much more intriguing than the staid performance of it I saw on The One Show. Thanks for all the tantalising bread crumbs folks want to see this now.

PC was OTT in my view - bordered on gay stereotype rather than a more nuanced characterisation and his partner just wafted around the stage doing little. I've said little about this aspect as it's part of the big reveal in the plot, but my view is that if you're going to weave in such themes then at least be authentic. Bad Cinderella worked really well and CHF does really well to carry the song while bring moved about the stage.
