I really liked it. Wasn't that brilliantly staged, but I still listen to the cast album. Better than the TV series, I feel. Me too; very much underrated. The second half is problematic as I think the police interviews and court case drag on and are hard to set to music - would love to see a slightly re-written version. Yeah, the police interviews really ruined Act II, otherwise I really enjoyed Stephen Ward.

So....back to the show itself...is it definite that CHF is playing the lead?Have not seen it confirmed anywhere.

We have no casting knowledge as of yet. We know the writing team, the director and the choreographer.
I want to hear a song or two - that is more interest to me than the casting.

^Oh,thought it launched at TOP back in May last year as a workshop version?Did nobody on the board see it at the time to experience the songs or am I getting confused 🤷♂️ with another version?

^Regarding different takes on the story from earlier in the thread...directed an am-dram of Carol Ann Duffy’s ‘Grimm Tales’,a few years ago and her version of this well-worn story (Ashputel) is seriously good...very dark in tone.Well worth tracking down.

From the update signup e-mail... Andrew Lloyd Webber said: "I have long wanted to write my own version of Cinderella...” What was Starlight Express then? And Evita, of course...although that was the Cinderella story gone sour. So really this is his third take on Cinderella!

Starlight Express was workshopped at TOP last year. I dont think Cinderella has had any public outings at all. Which is kinda odd for an ALW show, not even 1 song released yet.

Loved it in The Beautiful Game, i bought it on a cassette single, and hated it in Love Never Dies where it became an overwrought mess. Please lets not hear it again.
Was anything released from Stephen Ward before it opened? I'm sure I knew 'I'm Hopeless When It Comes To You' before i went in.Here's hoping something gets released. Maybe when they launch the full website.

Yes I also loved it in Beautiful Game, gorgeous melody. Loved the Hannah Waddingham (forget the name of the character) version in Act 1 and also was an amazing finale to the show. Didn't mind it in LND as orchestration was so different, but I DID mind that it meant had to be removed from Beautiful Game/Boys In Photograph - I'd have just left it! Anyway, think the first time the Stephen Ward songs were heard was at the launch about 4 months before opening - they performed I'm Hopeless When It Comes To You (as you say) and also This Side Of The Sky, You've Never Had It So Good and the title song. The latter was also released as a melody only version by a South American guitar player. And This Side Of The Sky was released before opening and was done a few times on telly. They also released snippets from the cast album on social media. I think I'd heard over half the songs by 1st preview. Cinderella was performed a couple of times as a workshop (with CHF and others) at TOP last year but they were private performances and none of the music made it in to the public domain. Was at that time they were muttering about going to Broadway first (which would have been a terrible idea so thank God they didn't).

ALW did play a tune from Cinderella at one of the “Unmasked” concerts at The Other Palace, but I cant remember it at all now.

I have two songs from it in my iTunes, Human Sacrifice and I'm Hopeless When It Comes To You. I think they released them as a free download on the show's website.

I’m sure Ruthie will do ANYTHING to be in an original ALW Musical.
Very excited and yes I hate the logo too! Ha..

I am genuinely excited about this! A new Lloyd Webber is always an event. Musically he can be a little hit and miss, so here’s hoping his take on CINDERELLA is good.
Do we have any idea as to when this goes on sale?

...Also, lots of people on here are saying how bad the artwork is, but I actually really like it.
The original LOVE NEVER DIES artwork...now THAT was awful!

The original LOVE NEVER DIES artwork...now THAT was awful! Well, so was the show. Question: When the Cinderella project was first announced, Lloyd Webber said he was collaborating with Tom MacRae, who wrote the book and lyrics for Everybody’s Talking About Jamie. But he's nowhere to be seen on the credits. What happened?

They will have to be clearer in their marketing about whom exactly this show is aimed at.

I really liked Love Never Dies! (although I did see it after it was reworked).
Looking forward to this, it definitely has the potential to be great (or, you know, terrible, but interesting either way!)

The original LOVE NEVER DIES artwork...now THAT was awful! Well, so was the show. Well, I don’t agree with that. The music certainly is very beautiful - musically superior to the original PHANTOM in my opinion. The story is questionable, but the rewrites help in some way in making it more palatable. The filmed Australian production also looks gorgeous.

Lots of the music is very good. But the book feels really convoluted, like a POTO fan-fiction or something. I enjoyed the Oz dvd version a great deal too.

Wouldn't this show be a great opportunity for Sir Andrew to resurrect "There's Me" which was cut from "Starlight Express" & was one of my favourite songs. It could be given to Buttons.

O.O I live in hope that someday ALW will realize how stupid all that tinkering with Starlight was and mount the original version with "Only He", "Belle, the Sleeping Car" and indeed "There's Me" again.
