Off to see the last show, I wonder will there be any protest? I’m off to the last show today as well, I’m really intrigued to see if ALW will show up and if there will be any speeches given the circumstances. Rodney Vubya was on as Charming last night and was going a bit OTT with added riffs in his number, so it’ll be interesting to see if the cast change anything for the last one as well.

Yup he's boasting about it om Insta. There's also one about messing around in the market scene. He really does come across as entitled and obnoxious instagram.com/stories/rodneyvubya/2858595527709209975?utm_source=ig_story_item_share&igshid=MDJmNzVkMjY=

To be honest the extra runs he added were all over the place and made me a cringe a little bit as they didn’t fit the melody at all, it was very self serving rather than serving the song.

On one of those he says he “didn’t sing the dots.” What does that mean?

On one of those he says he “didn’t sing the dots.” What does that mean? I'm no musician but I took it as he didn't sing the song as it was written

On one of those he says he “didn’t sing the dots.” What does that mean? He basically wanted to steal the show on his final outing by turning a simple vocal into a Beyoncé number, but couldn’t possibly ever do that with someone like Victoria H-B on stage.

Ohh… 💡 Dots as in musical notation. Seems kind of obvious now.

I think I’ve heard enough about and from Rodney to last an absolute lifetime.

I think I’ve heard enough about and from Rodney to last an absolute lifetime. don't look at all his affirmation posts across this week then, where he's reflecting on his "journey" during the last year.

Speaking of protests...
I really don't want this to sound bad, but last night at about 10 minutes into the show my stomach jumped as I thought I was about to witness some kind of protest...a person wearing a full horse head came in late and started walking right down to the stage and I was convinced that they were going to jump on and do something, as it was right in the middle of Carrie's Bad Cinderella number. It turns out that the person was just someone who personally choses to dress as a horse, and so happened to be late and have a seat in the front row.
I really don't want that to come across as me being judgemental because I'm not - if someone wants to dress a certain way then they're free to do so and I applaud the GL for being so inclusive - but I panicked for a moment!

Out of curiosity, I had a look. Absolutely hilarious, it's almost like a parody account. What on earth is wrong with him? I think if I had to work with him I'd have a nervous breakdown.

Taking the score in your own hands Reminds me of this. An attempt at showing ‘what I can do’ ? Before the curtain closes on the best opportunity he’s like to get after his behaviour

You’re joking right. One I can’t imagine the house staff letting such a distracting thing happen in the middle of a number. If you’re not joking then I guess it’s part of the cast getting away with last minute ‘fun’

If you’re not joking then I guess it’s part of the cast getting away with last minute ‘fun’ No, I’m being 100% serious! They were wearing a silver glittery horse head. I’ve actually seen people dress like this on the street a couple of times, so I assume it’s a niche kind of community - each to their own! Me jumping the gun in my mind about a potential protest did distract me from Bad Cinderella though, which was a bit annoying. I noticed that they were still on their seat in the second act when the stage turns and the front stalls are facing you as well.

Sums up this show's calamitous run really, doesn't it. Fortunately it's shortly off to the glue factory...
Amazed they were allowed in wearing that really, doubt they'd be allowed in wearing a motorcycle helmet.
I blame Rodney, just 'cos.

I was on such a high after meeting Victoria and her speaking to me like I was an old friend last night that I totally forgot about it until now - it really was a mental night! Maybe I’m bringing the chaos?

I thought Lauren Byrne (who I saw) was excellent, with Michael Hamway, and still do.
Stumbled across a Youtube pirate video yesterday, with Carrie and Ivano. Despite criticism of her acting here, Carrie absolutely finds the edge and seems perfect in the role, and Ivano is so real and animated and offbeat. Both feel really good acting performances. Camera up close may be helping that comparison (I was in the circle - great view, but further obviously).
Upshot - seeing that detail made me feel that the size and width of the Gillian Lynne Theatre didn't help this show, and some of the broadness it encouraged. In a dark fairytale a deep stage is good, the sense of things emerging, not 'coming on from the wings' which constantly reminds 'it's only theatre'. The complicated (but not very meaningful) bit of wall decor at the back really was a mistake I think.
As so often with ALW shows I've got a feeling it would be better smaller. Wonder if it'll get the chance.

Rodney is just coming over as a petulant, entitled brat. I am sure casting directors are taking note.
He is paid to perform the role and to entertain the audience who have paid considerable sums to see the show. That means singing the notes as written. Doing the dance steps as choreographed. Saying the lines in the script.
He isn't a star name who has to be indulged. He is a chorus boy getting a few moments in the spotlight because he is an understudy.
Doesn't mean he has to bow and scrape in gratitude. But it does mean he had to be professional and respect the audience.

I overheard Caleb tell another audience member that he’ll be on for the final show last night, I’m glad as I paid about 3x what I usually would to be at the final show and will be glad to not have to witness Rodney’s main character syndrome again.

Is Rebecca Trehearn back for the final show today? She tweeted about testing positive for covid 3 days ago but I’m not sure what the rules are these days.
