This was mentioned on here several months ago. Even down to the Manchester run first. Whoever it was, well done. I have a feeling it may have been our resident Mystic Meg, Mystic Barnaby, but could be wrong.

It’ll need a massive stage if they’re marrying live action with video projection on a BTTF scale. Could be fantastic. |

In 2001 a Back to the Future musical premiered at Edinburgh. It was by Walsh/Jacobs & Dean Collinson & was great. There were some Americans who were going to back it for the west end but 9/11 happened & it fell through. I would rather see that one.

There was but that came from me lol! Only because, funnily enough Lucie Jones.....performed a song from the film at a Curve season launch as a hint to a new 80's musical they were working on so naturally my mind went there......but it ended up being An Officer and a Gentlemen...and the song she sang never actually appeared in the show...so that was a weird affair. |

Not heard of this until i received the email from Manchester Opera house this morning. Being a child of the eighties and sci fi fan my curiosity was piqued and after a quick wikipedia read informed me of all the talent involved in this, I am really excited for this now!
Far beyond my initial reaction of "They really are turning every single eighties film into a musical!"
This could be something quite special, think i will make both the trip up to Manchester and the trip down to London after its inevitable transfer as long as my initial fears weren't right and it does indeed turn out to be bloody awful lol! xx
Oh, and if anyone fancies making Ghostbusters:the musical, well just take my money now!

This looks exciting. I'm glad this is a hybrid of new material and classic songs used in the movie.
I don't recall seeing Olly Dobson in anything before, he certainly looks a good fit for the role in the promo photo though.
What would be your dream casting for "Doc" Brown...? It'd never happen, but Andrew Scott could deliver the same wide-eyed mania that Christopher Lloyd had.

I am, along with everyone else, very excited about this project. To have the illustrious film team behind it is great (though I wish Matthew Warchus were directing) but I am worried it has no musical theatre dramaturg behind it - so I hope the song placement and structure will be strong for the non-diegetic moments.
I am excited to have Paul Kieve on board, too - he's certainly one of our top illusion designers and I can't wait to see how the musical ends. My issue is... the ending of the first film is just the end of the first of 3 three parts (or two if you hate the 3rd film) so I'm curious to see how they tie it up. Also will they keep the Libyan terrorists?
I also think this will make its way to the Dominion next year. Imagine if it took over at the Coliseum!
Exciting times! We're gonna see some serious sh*t.

Wonder if they have a West End theatre in mind. They ARENT going to the Dominion. They think it’s too big. It might even go to NYC a rather than London If it’s good and no theatre in London is available. They want the Adelphi but Pretty Woman and Tootsie are after it also. |
