They sent out an email this morning: 6 more weeks in the West End...!! "We’ve been granted a 10th extension - taking us through to Saturday, March 8th 2025! Tickets will go on sale Friday 27 September, keep your ears to the ground for further correspondence."
That's an odd extension, right?

Most shows extend by several months at a time so it's a bit ingenuous to be shouting about it being the "tenth extension" when it's just a month and a half every time

At this point Avalon is hurting this show more than it is helping it.

At this point Avalon is hurting this show more than it is helping it. As much as I can’t stand how negatively Avalon has impacted the fan enjoyment of one of my favourite shows, the imminent New York announcement suggests it’s paid off for the creatives.

I saw this with the new cast last week. I was in the fifth row and the seat just seemed much more comfortable than last time and much less packed (although the gents still has an arrangement where I think it's impossible for three adults to be using the three urinals at the same time). I don't really know the show well enough to make direct comparisons with the previous cast, but all I can say is everyone was on form, and I can see why this show attracts such a lot of devoted repeat visitors.

The pricing for this is so frustrating. It’s one of my favourite musicals currently running and I had friends visiting at the weekend who wanted to see a show on Saturday night, but I couldn’t recommend it because of the cost.

This show will be killed simply because of greed... such a shame

This show has been succeeding in spite of Avalon from pretty much the moment it opened at the Fortune... Since they have changed the pricing so that every seat costs the same regardless of where in the theatre you go (so the back row of the upper circle is now £89) it is simply unaffordable to anyone who isn't flexible enough to be able to try the lottery.

I think you might have misread my post? I am not pro-Avalon. They are extremely lucky that this show is good enough to survive despite the myriad of terrible decisions they have made. The blanket ticket pricing is just the tip of the iceberg - it's been that way since the show opened in the West End. The £30(? 35? something like that) previews were great but ever since it's been ridiculous.

This show has been succeeding in spite of Avalon from pretty much the moment it opened at the Fortune... I mean, "at this point" was more just filler for the sentence than anything. The show is succeeding on its merits. Props to the creative team and the director they brought on. But Avalon has: - Kept a very weird and audience-disliked pricing structure (props to them for trying something new but it should have been retired after the response) - Mishandled the desired Broadway transfer audience communications in a way that makes me think their PR team is fresh out of uni (if they have one) - Misspelled character names on social media posts, characters who were LOST TO HISTORY BECAUSE OF MISSPELLED NAMES. And a lot more. The branding is amazing, whatever agency they hired is great. The director they brought in is great. But the actual production support they've provided feels from an audience POV like they have no idea what they are doing.

- Misspelled character names on social media posts, characters who were LOST TO HISTORY BECAUSE OF MISSPELLED NAMES. Honestly what's worse is the misspelling of actors' names, repeatedly, both online and in programmes. The character names thing hasn't been such an issue other than the original spelling of Leggatt as Leggett, but that wasn't the production company's fault. The exception being the absolutely terrible info pack they put together for the 'relaxed performance', which spelled character and actor names incorrectly, and misidentified their own songs. Avalon's list of sins is very long and a lot of it can't be talked about publicly, but truly they have been awful.

The worst part is on their recent Instagram post they used 'Leggitt' which wasn't even ever an option! To be fair, this COULD be a social media agency (I don't know if they do in-house or not), in which case Avalon should replace them.

"We see the chat in the forums and the blogs…" and shall conveniently ignore the continued dismay at the pricing.

They think all publicity is good publicity... Even when that publicity is them being called out for having the single worst pricing structure of any west end show.

Just announce news when you have news. I’ve seen this show 15 times but might have to unsubscribe from their mailing list. f***ing tedious now.

I find their ballot for newly released tickets so odd. I saw it for the 7th time on Saturday - went to the matinee. The grand circle has only about 70% full. It's hardly selling out, even at weekends.
I have to say, the more I see the new cast, the more I think it just doesn't work as well? I have to admit, despite act 1 having the better songs, I've always struggled to get through it and it kinda feels like it lasts too long? I think part of the problem is that 'Making a Man' sounds like it should be the end of act 1. But then it goes on for another 20 minutes.
The new characterisation of Montagu and Bevan don't really hit - I imagine it was a conscious decision, given that Holly has also changed her Ewan a fair bit too. It just felt like a lot of bits which were previously funny now aren't (and I don't just mean because I've seen it 7 times - the audience as a whole wasn't laughing). Diction also tends to be off (although I think this might just be the sound quality, actually).

The latest email was mortifying.
I would love to know how the original cast feel about their employers publicly discussing replacing them or not.

The latest email was mortifying. I would love to know how the original cast feel about their employers publicly discussing replacing them or not. I read it as the exact opposite as a campaign to keep the original cast "by popular demand" based on a survey of people who saw/listened to the orginal cast. You have to remember the orginal cast are also the writers and so do have some level of power.

When you’re used to the original cast, it’s strange to hear lines that used to reliably get big laughs now getting a much more muted response because they’re being delivered in a different way.
