I'm going to see the matinee tomorrow with my family and we're all huge fans of musicals and theatre in general, having enjoyed thoroughly every musical I've ever seen from Les Mis to &Juliet, how low should I set mine and my family's expectations?? It’s best not to set expectations. It’s not going to be everyone’s cup of tea, and it doesn’t sound like an absolute disaster at all. They’re a hard bunch to please on here, which I love, but always good to go in and try to enjoy it and forget about other people’s verdicts. Hope you enjoy!

I actually think if they brought in another director for a fortnight they could actually whip it into a really great show pretty damn easily.
Losing 3 or 4 songs would help with the length. Do a few new arrangements so every single song doesn't sound the same. Remove the 2 blobs and do a few new projections would sort out the visuals. Most importantly get people moving about that massive space a bit more and it would be 20 times better already.
At the moment it feels like all the elements are there, but it needs a fresh pair of eyes because everyone else is too close to it to see the problems.
Maybe they'll sort some of this out in the preview period?

Maybe they'll sort some of this out in the preview period? Unlikely, considering that it's receiving the same criticisms it got in 2017, when Schwartz's son put his hands on it for the first time. What the show really needs is a new director and choreographer, but I fear that's wishful thinking.

Being bored sh*tless for 3 hours gives you a lot of time to sit and think about how much you don't like what you're watching and why...
[article] Being bored sh*tless for 3 hours gives you a lot of time to sit and think about how much you don't like what you're watching and why... [/article] Jesus I've seen as many positive reviews around as I have negative so my fingers remain crossed.

I wasn't going to see this but after reading the reviews on here I think I am going to have to.
If only to see "the blobs".

I'm excited for the press to see this. Don't think I've ever been so bored in a theatre, sadly.
As soon as the ensemble were pretending to racing carts I knew this was going downhill.

...and boring is unforgivable. I don’t care if something is awful if it still engages you. Interesting failures, or tacky cheesiness still entertain. Dull lifeless musicals are a contradiction because to me, watching live musical theatre is about feeling alive and if creatives can’t find a way to make a load of people singing a story interesting they shouldn’t be in work! (NB - haven’t seen the show. I might love it; just a comment in general about boring mt).

Prince of Egypt more like Prince of Meh!
The good - I liked the lighting and some of the projections.
The Bad - everything else! It’s just so boring!

Tried to get a Rush ticket for this today but they were gone in a flash, first time I've been unsuccessful with a rush ticket. However popped into the theatre around 12.30 and cheekily asked if they had any day tickets available. They gave me Stalls Row E for £25. It has such mixed reviews on this forum but going with an open mind

I just had a look and they have a rush in Row N for tonight, maybe they add them during the day?

I just had a look and they have a rush in Row N for tonight, maybe they add them during the day? I did check about midday to see if there were anymore on sale before asking at the theatre so maybe they put the last few seats not sold back on quite late. She show was sold out tonight Had a great seat in Row E. I enjoyed the show. Personally I wasn't bored but definitely preferred the second half to the first although I really liked the way they did Moses in his basket on the river however cannot say the same for the chariots I thought this didn't work as well. The second half worked better especially the parting of the sea. The ensemble and some, not all, of the dancing /movement was stunning. Luke Brady and Christine Allado were excellent. As I was sitting quite close to the stage there were two loud noises from backstage. Also some white fabric fell from above onto the stage. It was quickly gathered up and taken off. Much later it looked like it reappeared as the white fabric that covered the stone when Ramses baby died. However overall a good performance with a standing ovation Show started on time and we were out by 10.15

Broad range of opinion for this show so I’ve added a poll. If you’ve seen it please rate it and help others decide whether to book.

I plumped first four stars in the end. The set is overall disappointing, but the plot is good (there’s nothing they could’ve done to drastically change that) but the biggest win for me is the cast. Definitely worth a go in my opinion.

It's a solid 3 from me. It dragged a bit and felt overly long, but the voices and visuals were really strong.

I've given it a 2/5.
1 for the vocals and 1 for the projections.
It's probably a 2.5/5, but it's far to meh to upvote it x

I'm curious to check this show out. I enjoyed the film and from what I've read from some on this thread who have seen it and given it not so positive reviews (as well as the poll), that's only heightened my curiosity. Wonder how the critics will react?

Ugh I wanted to like this so much, but it's just a bit of a mess. It feels like a small show in a theatre that's far too large for it. The constant lifting and re-positioning of the blocks just got on my nerves, it was unrelenting. I'm also someone who normally enjoys choreography but so much of this was just unnecessary - the dancers were the river, the sea, the sand, the blood - lots of rolling around on the floor doesn't necessarily add anything to the performance. Which is a shame as they're all working really hard, I just don't think it was effective at all. It's a shame as the vocals are very good - I had seen Luke Brady at the Globe a couple of years ago and he was the best thing in the production with a fab singing voice. He sung brilliantly yesterday, but it's such a shame that, aside from the songs from the film, all the newer ones were not good. Christine Allardo and Alexa Khadime were fantastic too and I always like Liam Tamne, but they were generally wasted on what they were given. It was also far too long, the film is only 99 minutes, and this could have been about the same. It didn't feel like they could decide which tone they should go with overall so did a mishmash of awkward humour & general anger so any time anything epic or sad happened it didn't quite land. I was also annoyed that they resolved the conflict between Ramses and Moses at the end with a very clunky 'you will be a great ruler and build a great empire...without slaves' etc. Their relationship wasn't something that really needed to be tied up I thought. I gave it 2 stars in the vote, I think it would have been 3 last night, but it's such a wasted opportunity.
