This is definitely transferring as they've staged it Proscenium arch at the Young Vic. If they weren't going to move it they'd have kept it's in-the-round/square staging from New York, which I feel worked better than this format as it was less distancing. Ambassadors would be a great choice for the move. The original staging at the Public was how it's being staged at the YV. The US tour was the Public staging. The Circle in the Square Broadway staging is the anomaly, not the other way around and doesn't mean anything when it comes to transferring it or not. You'll find that it does. 😉

View was good eith the exception of missing some action front stage right but nothing major. I was rather uncomfortable with leg cramp by the end of the show though, and I'm only 5'3".

Thank you both - bit worried about the legroom issue, I'm a whopper (6'6"!). Might re-think! I’m 6’ 3” and usually struggle with legroom. I found it to be fine, with a little to spare. Having no interval though did mean I was twitchy by the end.

I sat in M52 when I saw it last week. Good view apart from a couple of moments when something happening at the extreme side of the stage was out of my line of vision. For what I paid (£20), I was perfectly happy with it.

Loved this tonight. Some of the heart felt bits are a bit over done but it's still worth all the accolades. Particularly good were the child leads who were very believable. It's definitely a show that will stay with me as parts of it touched me deeply. Not sure how it ended up at TYV. I would have thought it was more of an Old Vic kind of show. Either way I'm really glad I saw it.

You'll find that it does. The point I'm making is Sam Gold helmed the off-Broadway and Broadway runs of Fun Home and is helming the Young Vic run too. Since he knows how to stage the show in both variations, there was nothing to stop him staging it in the round at the Young Vic, it could still have transferred as the proscenium staging is its original staging. That's what I mean about how the staging doesn't really have a bearing on the transfer viability of this show. Also, to repeat my earlier point, the in the round staging you were so fond of was not how the show was created or performed originally, so why would they keep it?

You occasionally miss adult Alison when she's drawing in the far corner, but other than that it's a clear great view. I wasn't cramped in the legroom on this row either, as some others have been and I'm a shade over 6 feet tall. I watched The Inheritance in one day from the same row and had no complaints.

Also, I loved the house reveal, but why did we need it? And why at that particular point in the show? Every scene up until that point has used the set to suggest environment rather than creating it explicitly, so why do we suddenly need to see it for real? I suppose that scene represents a very significant moment for Alison, but I'm still struggling to understand the reasons behind that particular choice. I asked myself the same question and I've come up with more than one possible reason behind the choice, so here are my two cents about it... For one thing, all the scenes we've seen take place in the house until then have been scenes involving small Alison - medium Alison has only been seen on campus. This means it's a more recent memory, it originated in the mind of a young adult, and it's attached to the first time Alison went home after coming out, the time she had an open and adult conversation with her mum, as well as the last time she saw her dad... so the picture we get of the space, the furniture, etc is much clearer and better defined because, in a way, it's such an indelible, mature memory. The other thing that makes this memory different is that we're also seeing the house through Joan's eyes, as she sees it for the very first time. That's when she tells Alison something along the lines of "oh, you described it to me, but I couldn't imagine it would really be like this". Does any of that make any sense to you?

On several occasions Bruce tells other characters that he's constantly working on the house. There is a time gap of around 10 years between the scenes with young Alison and the homecoming of student Alison. I thought the 'reveal' showed that Bruce's masterpiece had been completed during that time gap. In his desperation to find meaning in his life he has now moved on to his next project - the broken down house on the highway.

Theatreboard to the rescue! I'll be arriving from Edinburgh just before mid-day, and I'm seeing Fun Home at 2:30pm. The thing is, I will have a backpack with me and I don't want to risk being refused access to the theatre. Any suggestions for a baggage store/locker near the Young Vic? Ta muchly!

Thank you to MoreLife and gazzaw13 - your suggestions are very sensible. Perhaps I was looking for too deep a meaning in it, and had forgotten that with each scene being a memory, those from her childhood would of course be more hazy than those from her College years.

How big is your backpack? If it's the size you'd take to the gym, you can probably take it into the auditorium. The Young Vic doesn't technically have a cloakroom but I'm sure I've seen them hold large bags at the box office before now. It's not guaranteed though, so I wouldn't *count* on it.
Honestly, I'd be extremely tempted to use the free cloakroom at the National. See what's playing as a matinee on that day, pick a show that's 2 hours or more, drop off your bag in the appropriate cloakroom, then after Fun Home has finished, head back over, wait for the crowds to emerge, and go get your bag. In fact, don't they ask people entering the building to put large bags in the cloakroom regardless of whether they're seeing a show or not? Pop in, check in your bag, browse the bookshop, and leave. I mean, I'm sure that it's against the spirit of things and they have a rule that people using the cloakroom must be on site, but I don't see how they'd enforce it, and you'd only be leaving it there for as long as it takes to see Fun Home, right?

Thanks for the suggestions david and @baemax! Yes, it's a backpack that I'd take to the gym, but it also serves as my "carry-on" luggage with cheap airlines.(https://www.amazon.co.uk/Cabin-Max-Backpack-Approved-55x40x20/dp/B002Q5APX4). It won't be full, so shouldn't be too bulky. I'll check out the prices at Waterloo, or maybe just leave it at my friend's work in Piccadilly and pick it up after the show.

By far one of the best things I've seen in London for years. It's so beautifully cast and performed. Every member of the cast is perfect for the role and give incredible performances. Zuban Vala as Bruce is so detailed in his performance that I'd he is absolutely thrilling to watch. It's a very different take, I think, than anyone else would come up with but sits so perfectly in the picture of the piece. Other notable mentions are Eleanor Kane as Medium Alison who is an amazing find. It's a must see.

Thoroughly enjoyed this. I really didn’t know what to expect at all as I had not heard any of the songs before. Ultimately I don’t think I’ll be listening to any recordings as it only works as a play with singing rather than any standout compositions.
The performances however were just spot on. Medium Alison somehow reminded me a lot of a young Winona Ryder (think Mermaids), and Zubin Varla and Jenna Russell pitch perfect in the roles. I was just moved by all of them.
Unfortunately the evening was slightly let down by the fact that my two friends came out with the complete opposite opinion, labelling the father as “creepy”. I don’t really understand their conclusions on any of it but we’ve agreed to disagree.
