It played on a prosc arch stage before and after Broadway at the Public and extensively on tour. The in the round production was fantastic, but the show plays just as well in other spaces.

Is there a theater for this to transfer to right away? Trafalgar Studios is free from end of August currently, but I guess there'd be a couple of months between it finishing at the Vic and moving into town. Wyndhams, Pinter, Garrick, Playhouse, Noel Coward and Duke of Yorks all have shows booking to Jan/Feb, but I'd guess Fun Home would fit into any of these venues. The Scottsboro Boys was a year between its YV and eventual transfer so I wouldn’t be shocked if that was the case for Fun Home. Trafalgar Studios has Nine Night from December so I’m guessing something is already planned for August to November

How is this similar to the Broadway design? The Broadway design had everything coming from the floor whereas here it seems it's a more traditional set up? Is there a turntable? Just curious. They seem to re-create the show every time. It's similar in that it's the same pieces of set and props being used - as far as I'm aware the Broadway / US Tour set was shipped here once the tour ended. The costumes and direction are also largely identical. The pieces of set are used in a slightly different way as yes, they don't come from the floor and they have to be moved around (there is a revolve), and there's a clever moment in the second half that means some things are staged differently. It just feels very similar to the Broadway production visually. Broadway and the tour didn't use the same set, as Broadway was in the round and the tour wasn't. They probably used a great deal of the same furniture, though.

Thanks in advance Xxx I sent Todaytix an email earlier via their Contact Us form (with my confirmation order) asking where we have been placed. They should know now as the seating plan has been known for a while. Equally the YV may have the booking confirmed under your name by now? That's less likely though. I will be having stiff words with Todaytix if they havent given me some of the best tickets for my price band, especially as they were through pre-sale. support.todaytix.com/s/article/Where-will-my-seats-be

Very happy to hear the positive reviews but have booked a ticket for row A seat 30 and am slightly worried it may not be the best view. Is it possible to change where I am sat as the date hasn’t others avalibility or is this seat actually not too bad?

If you booked direct with the Young Vic they are normally flexible about swapping tickets if you give them a call. Might be a small fee for doing this.

I sat in A32 and it was still a good view, its quite a wide stage but they do a good job of keeping the action centred and varied on the sides, you should be fine. its great to be so close with them practically on ground floor level.

Well, this left me a bit underwhelmed last night. After all the anticipation I had high expectations and was a tad disappointed.
Apart from maybe a couple of songs the music didn't really cut it for me. The performances were a mix bag. Small Alison was very good and sang really well but the other two young children not so much. The number Come to the Fun Home sounded terrible, it's supposed to be a fun number but the vocals were all over the place with Christian and John totally off key, they ended up shouting the song more than singing it. Jenna Russell does a good job as the mother but it's really a thankless part. Middle Alison and the father were a bit weak but hopefully they will improve before the opening night.
I like the set and the way the use the revolve. The exploration of sexual identity has a few touching moments, but overall this was an unsatisfying, and at times slightly boring, experience for me.

Thanks in advance Xxx I'm in the same situation as you and so I contacted the Young Vic and got this response: Any tickets bought through TodayTix will not be allocated exact seats until the day of the performance as it is only on the day that we receive a full list of names from the company. We can however let you know that it is likely that your seats will be in Row C or Row H, as you have booked Zone A best available. Both these rows are in the stalls and offer a fantastic view of the show.

Just got out of this. Holy moly. I have never sobbed so much at theatre. Jenna and Zubin are wonderful and the three Alison’s are magnetic. Now we just need a cast recording!

That was beautiful, I was so moved by this piece.
So I’m very happy I took a gamble with that TodayTix £10 ticket (I was N44 so high bench) as my view was excellent (pretty much everyone will have a great sight line).
The set is really great here, simple at first (a resolve also) then stark & well then an impressive moment that really brought the ‘Fun Home’ to life!
This is a real emotional story and I was so impressed how well this was told, there’s some beautiful direction and emotive songs (tears were shed!).
Cast are terrific & it’s an excellent piece (glad Young Vic are housing it). I do agree it deserves a life after this but it’s niche so a nice limited run in a small West-End space would be lovely but it’s not a show that would work for me in a big theatre or is a long-runner!
So glad to have now seen this particular Broadway musical (oh and I spotted John Partridge with Tamsin Outhwaite attending tonight!!).

For my tastes, the best musical I've ever seen. Some spoilers follow. . . Family, frailty, fate, falling to pieces, blossoming, unbridgeable gulfs, our many selves, the secrets we keep, the love we can express, the love we can't, the universal inside the specific, so so rich . . . And not a false note from anyone. I haven't cried as much in any show. This production is magnificent. I came to the piece cold, except knowing from this thread that this was a must-book, and this thread was right. I've booked again. Let noone wait for reviews, because it will obviously sell out. Oh the performances: Eleanor Kane's gawky honesty, Zubin Varla's volcanic coiled secrecy, little Brooke Haynes' open earnestness, little Ramsay Robertson's infectious silliness, Jenna Russell's frozen hurt and narrator, Kaisa Hammarlund's balance of gravity and looseness. All simply marvellous. I was straight up for a standing ovation, a rare occurrence for me, where I chose to do it, rather than just going with the flow. Now I'll get the BCR, let the songs become a part of me, and go back to the show to be a part of it again. 5 stars.

As someone who saw it six times in its two NYC iterations, as well as two subsequent regional productions, it is so great to hear how it is resonating with all of you. A truly special show.

Just returned a single ticket in row C for tomorrow night. It's on the website now.
I am sad I am not able to go, but funding is tight right now so can't justify the travel and general day costs. I am very impressed with the YV credit deal though so I can use my money to buy a different ticket to a different show down the line.
I am seeing Fun Home later in the run anyway, so missing out on one performance won't devastate me too much.

Saw this last night and while I didn’t think it’s the best thing I’ve ever seen, it’s really quite beautifully done in places. Think I was helped by being dead centre of row D (I was a TodayTix booker for those unsure about where they might be sitting) so was upclose and in eye line of the actors. Won’t give anything away but Jenna Russell’s solo was particularly emotional, as was the car ride near the end.
And yes, as others have said the set comes to life at one point!

Went in with low expectations and was not disappointed. Interesting piece which would benefit from some cutting (two of the three children) and some tighter direction and most importantly some really thrilling voices. Despite the combined musical theatre pedigree, the cast do not deliver vocally which is a huge shame. Only Jenna just about gets away with it. Probably spoilt by the OBC and once again in the minority judging from the (now obligatory) standing ovation.

I've just returned a very good row B ticket for tomorrow (sold out) if anyone's interested - I didn't fancy the trip in this heat!

I saw it in Cleveland, Ohio. It's very good but not as good as people have raved about. Definitely a cult thing.
