A show with very bad, generic, forgettable music and a huge group of people running around the stage shouting "what do we do? It's war". Sometimes they stand in a row singing "If we don't do anything, who does"? And sometimes someone laughs, cries or dies on stage but you have no idea who it is and why you should particularly care for that character. Oh, and the scene changes are a result of the audience turning a bit. Which you see in theme parks a lot.

Hadn't heard of this but happened to be reading the planning applications section in my local newspaper (the Newham Recorder) today and saw a planning application for a theatre to be installed at the Royal Docks for a period of five years which transpires to be for this. I know the location as we went there this year to see one of those slightly mad French theatre/circus/acrobatic troupes (Transe Express) open air things there. Its an easy ride on the DLR from Canning Town which is on the Jubilee Line.
Can't imagine it will be anywhere near as controversial as the other entertainment space currently planned for Newham - The Madison Square Garden (MSG)sphere in Stratford. There is quite a head of steam building up in opposition to that.

alece10 I don't know whether the MSG will get planning permission. It doesn't have much of an impact on me as I live in a part of Stratford that is just far enough away from it not to suffer the light pollution that it looks to be bringing to its near neighbours. But like other Stratford residents who do battle to get out of the station when West Ham are at home, I do have concerns as to how the streams of visitors will be managed. But then again any employment opportunities for the many young people I know locally are not to be sniffed at.

But I think the plans for the area are very exciting especially the V&A, Sadler's Wells etc.

This looks massive! Would Stratford be the right place for this? Seems to be a competitor for The O2. Does London need another arena?

I think it would be much better to make a similar show about British history, with fewer characters and actual good writing and music. There is a show about British history that has a similar subject. It's called 'V For Victory' and it's about the occupation of Jersey. It had an off-west end tryout run in 2018 and is currently in development for a larger production. www.twitter.com/Victory_Musical

I went to a "Focus Group" last night on this (having completely missed this thread). Knew nothing about the show, knew nothing about the 360 degree "Theatrical Experience". Looks interesting from a set/design concept, incorporates "real sea" (although if it's Docklands it'll be River Thames) ... *sorry about all the quote marks ....
Mostly concentrated on the poster layout(s), and if it gave enough information about what the "Experience" involved. Very little about the music. Starts in November 2020 from what I saw last night (and I didn't have to sign a non-disclosure thing so I'm pretty sure I'm safe in passing on the information).

This is something I want to see and have been following it on Facebook. The Dutch version looks very impressive. From the videos I have seen looks as if it will be a pretty big venue which leads to the problem of getting home afterwards. DLR trains in the evenings are about 1 every 10 minutes and they don't exactly hold a lot of people, so if the venue holds 1,500-2,000 its going to be a real chore getting home afterwards and there is no other way as its in the middle of nowhere in Docklands. Might be something to do as a matinee then there isn't the rush to get home afterwards. Oh and Andy Coxon has been workshopping it so hopefully he is going to be in it which is a big plus.

It was mentioned in the focus group that the start times would be 19.15 for evenings and (from memory)14.00 for matinees for a 3 hour show.

There's a poster for this by the station in Hammersmith. Very vague, just says the title with 'musical theatre' with no dates or anything!

I was so excited about this. It looked amazing. I fear it may have totally fallen apart, but I’m very much hoping not

Still no updates on this a year later - safe to assume it’s dead (for now)
