Jesus, Miranda obviously got bored as hell after a few weeks. I suppose it's not for everybody. She should've thought about that before signing a contract, though. Her stamina sucks, has to be said. If it really makes you feel better to believe that, then ok, but I mean she's just ill. Sorry to disappoint you. |

This is a stupid thing to bug me, but I've just collected my ticket for this afternoon, and there was a group of girls lurking about the front door asking if Miranda is on, to which the doorman replied yes (yay!), he then asked them if they were collecting tickets to which they replied "no, we just wanted to know if we could catch Miranda before she goes in!".
She's already in, get a life people! Ffs, let people go to work in peace! 😠

I had fun. Its not much more than fun, but its enjoyable and hilarious. The plot is basic as hell so I think the fact they fit so much into Act 1 and so little in Act 2 made it a bit grating on me, Act 2 felt like alot of dance breaks for the sake of making it a full Act. This show is a weird one for me. Unlike most 90's kids it seems, I grew up with the Carol Burnett version, not the Disney version. So I was real confused why half the songs werem't in the show and had no clue where these other songs had come from. I also missed the big scenes on the bridge where Hannigan find a heart then grts punched in the fafe and everything! It didn't feel like there was much stakes, or if Annie was ever really in danger here. The score, again, I like the songs from the movie, the inconic songs, but the other songs kinda felt like filler and nothing more. The scene in the President's board room REALLY dragged! That said, taking the content of the show itself aside, which was OK, I had alot of fun because of the cast and the sets. Clesrly a ripoff of Matilda but also slightly Charlie I felt, it was fun and poppy, with great lighting too. The choreography was good, but that final song where boxes are being thrown abour, what a mess! Boxes were going all over that stage and floor! We had the full adult cast, and they were great. Miranda was hilarious and I thought she worked her voice well to the score. Shes alot of fun to watch and every scene shes in she steals it! I also enjoyed the two playing Lily and Rooster, I thought they were fantastic! Everyone else was great, and the kids were great. Sandy steals the show with his little cameos and rightly so. I just had alot of fun! |

I enjoyed it in manc with CRH. People get incredibly snooty about this stuff, I can't imagine why. It's not trying to be high art or anything is it, it's supposed to be a LAUGH.

I thing anyone who knows Annie accepts that it's not high art, but that's no reason why it can't have high production values. I'm not sure I'd class School of Rock, or even 42nd Street for that matter, as being high art, but they both have much higher production values than this version of Annie. That's what disappointed me.

I think the underlying with issue with Annie is that the three villians are the best part, and two of them are only in a couple of scenes. Thd other characters are somewhat dull and uninteresting, you are almost willing to kill the ginger thing off at the end just to add some drama to the other characters lives.

Went to this last night and had a nice time at it!
It’s ‘Annie’ so it’s never going to groundbreaking and it will always be cute (very corny)!
CRH accent didn’t convince me & felt more like going through the motions than living in the character but had a good voice and he was in his element in the dance for ‘Easy Street’. I saw ‘Lily Savage’ did this years ago and that was pretty amazing.
The highlights were as expected ‘NYC’ (I love a tap moment) and ‘You’re Never Fully Dressed Without A Smile’.
I did raise a smile when the ensemble sing the number in the ally when ‘Annie’ runs away as you can tell it confuses those that only know the musical by the film & they are all what is this? I noticed that with ‘NYC’ too but got a big cheer (it’s such a good stage number & was choreographed well here).
It’s a nice harmless family musical with a lovely score and for many a reminder of childhood, I actually said to my friend in the way out it would be lovely to see this in the Christmas season!

If you went Monday night, you would have Isabelle Methven play Annie (She’s one of the Annie understudies and normally plays one of the orphans)

Saw this at today's matinee and enjoyed it. I agree with westendclub's description of CRH's performance. But the rest of the show was more charming and uplifting than I had expected. There was some good staging and performances, 'Easy Living' was a highlight. Rooster was outstanding and Warbucks was warm and likeable. All the orphans were great. A great escapist afternoon.

Went to Wednesday matinee of this, funny thing is even though I know the film and music very well, it was the first time I have seen it on the stage.
It was a fun afternoon and I enjoyed myself but now I've seen it wouldn't rush back.
Cast were good especially the guy who played Rooster and also Daddy Warbucks. CRH was fine and had a good singing voice. Quite liked his NY accent but I felt he was just going through the motions. The girl who played Annie was excellent and the children fine but I had difficulty understanding them as they were trying to do American accents with various degrees of success. Sandy the dog was great and one of the best bits of the show.
But on the whole I thought the production looked a bit cheap. Considering that this was a west end production with rather high seat prices I was expecting a bit more than, what looked like, a touring set.
Anyway my niece, who I took with me loved it.
We then went to see AAIP that evening, talk about chalk and cheese.

I saw this for the second time last night. If anything, Craig is better as Miss Hannigan than Miranda was. The orphans were on good form and the quality of the song and dance numbers is high. The set isn't amazing but who cares? Overall it was fun, fast moving and a great evening's entertainment.
I notice the theatre are currently doing very good deals for kids which makes a nice change. Unfortunately the child who sat next to me last night talked and fidgeted through the whole thing and the parent did nothing to discourage her!

I saw Annie on Saturday night and it wasn't great. not bad but just 'meh'. The children in the cast were excellent, as were the guys playing Rooster and Warbux. To me the whole show felt rushed and lacked any emotional depth. Annie and Warbux became best friends in about 5 minutes and then at the end there was a total anti-climax when Annie found out her real parents were dead and Warbux was adopting her after all. The dog didn't add much either. The pacing was very strange. Too much focus on Miss Hannigan (who was being played for laughs but not really getting any) and not enough focus on Annie/Warbux relationship. I wonder if that was due to Miranda's casting? Set fine, costumes fine, sound needed turning up, terrible behaviour from people sitting behind me who obviously thought they were at home watching the X factor or something. I wouldn't rush back to see Annie. It was a pleasant evening but it is a poor mans (or woman's!) school of rock/matilda and not at all worth the price of the tickets.
