I'm not offended, I just think it distasteful, that's all.

I went in to this last night, a huge fan of Miranda, and wanted to love it. Sadly, I didn't love it.
I really enjoyed the production when I saw it on tour a few Christmases ago with Jodie Prenger - it was one of my favourite touring productions of that year. But it for some reason didn't work in the West ENd. And I think that's largely because it's a great touring production, but the quality of the production isn't enough for the West End.
Miranda does a great job of trying to imitate Carol Burnett, who she has obviously based a lot of this on. She does alright with the acting, very hammy, and hits all the choreography (i saw the tour a fair few times so remember most of it) but the problem is the singing. She just struggles. A lot of it they have taken the decision to let her speak/shout, but she does struggle a lot with the vocals. Lots of missed notes that turn into shouts or grunts. I expected a bit more, but it just sort of didn't work.
Some cracking bloopers too: when Hannigan's office is being cleared off, one of the children pushed one of the filing cabinets too violently and it went crashing on to its side, causing 4 stage hands to run on and pick it up while the child stood in horror. Also, at the end of Never Fully Dressed, one of the kids forgot to take the brake off their machine desk, and thus it wouldn't move and she needed to get off, so she dragged it backwards noisely as Easy Street kicked in...
I'd give it 3*, but without a 'name' in the show, I don't feel it has a place in the West End. Can't knock it too much though, Miranda is filling that theatre 8 times a week (despite the DISGUSTING ticket prices)

Has anyone tried getting day seats for this yet? Any advice? Timings etc. Thanks! I got a day seat last Friday an hour before the show. I'd looked at the seating chart on the ATG website beforehand and there was quite a bit of availability left at full price (unlike the weekend which was pretty well sold) so I thought it was worth a try. The box office staff were really helpful when I asked, and I ended up with row F of the stalls.

Afraid not, but would love to see Anne Smith! I saw her cover for Stephanie Beacham as the Wicked Queen in Birmingham panto a couple of years back and she really was brilliant...I think she'd ace Hannigan.

I saw Anne as Miss Hannigan back in Glasgow and I actually preferred her to Elaine C Smith which is tough for me to say because she is a national treasure here!!! She plays it MUCH more drunk and MUCH more aggressive Hopefully there isn't too much backlash about Miranda being off like some other recent shows with names but I don't imagine there will be

I think the general rule for when a star is off is to kick off initially, then watch the show, realise that the cover actually is as good as the lead if not better, and then very quickly chill out. Of course some choose to not chill out!

Anyone who DOESNT see Hart is very lucky indeed... I wish I saw the understudy. Or one of the ushers would have played it better.

Miranda off again today for both shows Yep. I'm at the matinee today and glad to have someone who can sing the role and that people won't fake laugh at everything they say and do.

Saw Anne play Rosie in Mamma Mia back in the day at the Prince Edward. Thought she was amazing (if a tad to skinny for the role!)

Can I ask anyone going to see this a MASSIVE favour? (It's really easy)
When you're there, can you find out the price they're selling a show poster at the merchandise stand?
I wish to make it perfectly clear, I am NOT asking you to purchase this item- I should never do that.
I am simply asking if anyone going could just find this out and get back to me.
Thanking you in advance.

Or perhaps, and this is a long shot I know, there are some people who actually find Miranda Hart funny and therefore their laughter isn't fake. They simply find her funny. Just a thought . .

...and why buy the ticket in the first place if you don't like Miranda or people "fake" laughing at her?

I was taking my niece who loved it. I dont see why Miranda would get any more laughs than her understudy as long as she played the part the way it was written, so not sure why people finding her funny would make them laugh more? Anyway, I stand by my review of the show being boring and the set and production being far too cheap for the prices being charged. The cast were good though.

I think it's called star quality. I don't imagine anyone has any doubts that Miranda's understudy is a perfectly good actress and singer but for some people (not all I admit) Miranda Hart can get more from a line or look or movement by just being naturally funny and it's that which makes them laugh more. Maggie Smith does the same. She can take a mundane line and turn it into something quite exquisite that very few other actresses manage. God love her, Ria Jones was wonderful in 'Sunset Boulevard' but Glenn Close just had that extra something else which made her performance unmissable compared to Ria's.

Not long until Miranda's proposed leaving date. Who do we think will take over? I would love it to be a musical theatre legend like Ruthie Henshall, Claire Moore, Kim Criswell or even the divine Kristin Chenoweth whilst she's here for her Palladium concert (now I AM dreaming). Or one of the great ones from the Broadway revival, also dreaming.

As I was watching 42nd Street, I found myself thinking that Sheena Easton would make a great Miss Hannigan. Of course that would have to be in the future, and in a different production. There is no way she would leave something so lavish for what I think is now generally accepted to be a low-rent version of Annie.
