Tap in the toes.
This, I am reliably informed, is what good tappers strive for. A teacher will check little tap shoes for a crease across the top and, on finding one, will praise the child for having learnt to 'pick up' on their toes, as this is what eventually causes the shoes to crease. It is harder to achieve, but is what the technique taught in the UK aims for. Children can be doing this by about 8-10 years old, though many find it extremely difficult and come to it significantly later. (American tap is completely different, though I'm not sure exactly in what way.)

Isn't tap always in the toes? Taps on both toes and heels.

I love the fact that art is so subjective and people can have widely different opinions on the same piece.
But "lacked energy"? I thought the companies energy could power the National Grid for a week and that was only at the very first preview! Going again on Friday - my last chance with a £15 front row seat!!

Some people on this board love repeated visits to shows. I'm not usually so inclined - there's so much on offer I like to try new shows. Occasionally I may make a return visit after some time has elapsed or I have a visitor to entertain. I have never been to a show, liked it and then immediately bought a ticket to see it again. Until now. I saw this on Friday and bought my return for next month over the weekend. I think I quite like it!

Yes, I very rarely visit shows more than once, much preferring to see new stuff as time and money is finite, but this is an exception!

Saw this last night. The dance sequences are incredible and the tapping is outstanding so that goes without saying- the company give 110% and the big showstoppers are great. That said, the book is weak and the show felt dated to me- the cheesiness of some of the lines really dates it. I enjoyed the night and am glad I saw it but it did feel beyond its time and a beuatiful production of an old show.

That's because the show IS dated It's old And that will be it's appeal They have tried shows set in the modern time up to date hip And they all flop Because the modern time has no clear identity and relies on cost cutting, maximal profits and cheapness

" A beautiful production of an old show". That could be up in lights outside the theatre! The same thing could be said about me!!

Is this all one big viral marketing campaign? Is there any real need for the amount of cynicism you appear to be bringing to this thread without actually having seen the show? Sometimes a production is just nearly universally loved - Hamilton on Broadway is another example, and the general reaction to Sunset and Hello Dolly over there so far.

Wow!! That trailer is sensational on so many levels, one of which is that it truthfully represents the show!

I think the plan is to screen it on TV It has certainly been edited to the highest standard and makes the show seem elegant, lush, glossy and spectacular Often these qualities are lost in such trailers

I'm going to have to see this after all the comments on here. I just have a horrid feeling this isn't a show for me. Even so I guess it'll be good to see the great production values on stage.

Every so often people pop up on threads from nowhere and seem to have an agenda.

You MUST see please Anyone who lists "theatre" as a hobby or interest or claims they like "going" to the theatre Cannot legitimately justify this If they miss this show whilst it is on at Drury Lane I cannot express or overstate the historical and artistic important of this show enough It is the equivalent of mandatory training at work And makes all those interval departures and dull shows I have sat through fade into insignificance I hope you have a lovely time!
