Well I saw this yesterday, WOW is all I can really say.
I went in with low expectations due to some people here being cynical about it all. I went due to a former classmate of mine being in the ensemble and it was a spectacle! Amazing dancing, outstanding ensemble and great leads. 2nd trip already booked for May.
I hope word of mouth spreads for this and the critics review it well as it deserves it.

So if given the choice of AA or row A in stalls which is the better to go for? Far too slow to pick up then£15 bargain seats but still like idea of being in front row. Also, any thoughts on leg room and seat comfort at the front?

If you are gonna see this show, that is the place to see it from! Sitting in the second row, because the stage is so low, I got the impression the heads of those in front may actually be a distraction so front row all the way.  |

Would someone be able to confirm that weeny 5ft 2(ish) people would be able to see all the feet in row AA pretty please? The stage is torso height on me (5'10) so you should be fine. Don't worry. And the orchestra pit sets you back so you don't have to look up. and the legroom was fine for me too, so you will be living your life there!  Yes, was tested with a person of that height, and they had no problem at all. The row A / AA situation has been confirmed. The official word is that from Monday 24 April, Stalls AA 4 – 20 and A 2 – 22 go up to £75. Seats A 0, 1, 23 and 24 will be £15. Note that 0 and 24 have restricted legroom. That bargain I though I got for £15, in A24 is a leg breaker seat. Me bad!!! |

With a story thinner than an ants winkle this was gonna HAVE to deliver.....and my it DOES!
Not a shoddy performance in the 16,000 cast. Everyone comments righty on the dancing but how glorious were the female ensemble when they sang together?!
The sets were sexy, the costumes marvellous
For me, even thou the leads were fab, this show really is the ensemble's for me. Not only 2 hours of dancing but with smiles that could break a mothers heart! I really hope they somehow get recognition
I fell over in the standing ovation!!!!
Gonna give this a 4* mainly coz the story was so darn flimsy. Il go again but I would RUSH to get tickets if there were a little more plot.....but I am of course missing the point
The mirror and the revolve.....'Dames' when they just wouldn't stop coming.......the last 40 mins.......when the stairs were revealed and the ensemble matched to them........so many highlights!
And (from my 4th row) those front row tickets! U all got the best deal of the decade there!

I think The productions standards Have taken eveyone by surprise As we haven't actually had a major revival of a huge vintage show for a while Not on this scale The point it really proves Is why most new musicals in the WE Don't survive Because they are sh*te And cheaply staged And don't excel in any department We have become used to low standards as the norm And this show puts all that into perspective |

Am LOVING the buzz for this show - first trip not til next Thursday but snuck in a second £15 front row ticket in April before they all disappeared and have added another in June at the new higher price (if you average the three out, they're still a total bargain!) when I'm pulling a double dance show day with this and An American in Paris |

I said in my initial comments about the first preview that younger people will never have seen production values like this before and there are lots of younger people on this board. This production surpasses the original at the same theatre in the 80's!
Even the big shows such as Les Mis have been scaled down from the original production in terms of cast numbers, orchestra numbers and the barricade is not quite as big and impressive as it was originally!
There hasn't been such a BIG show in the WE for years - the sheer scale and spectacle of it is fabulous. Old fashioned production values. You can see where your ticket money has gone.

When was the last musical that every forum member has heaped on the praise as much as for this show? I actually can't remember the last show that did. Titanic I would think would be the last. I mean, eventually there will be one or two who say they hate it, but these are the people who tend to enjoy being the ones different from everybody else. For face value, I think anyone who has seen it can agree it is a 4-5 star show, no question! |

Undoubtedly a 5 star production of a 4 star show. As others have mentioned the book is a little weak in places. But overall it's definitely a rare 5 star show for me.
So to the critics who gave "The Girls" 5 stars which cannot hold a candle to this show, where do they go with their review of this ? It makes a complete mockery of them!

Just got home. What an amazing show. So many high points, such a wonderful ensemble and in such good shape for previews.
Most of what I could say echoes the comments already made but the orchestra deserve all the plaudits already given and the moments with the mirror and the steps will stay with me for a long time. I don't think I stopped smiling throughout.
Special mention to the Drury Lane accessibility team for allowing us to use the level entrance to the stalls and for pre entering and seating us. They were so helpful.

I'm surprised it taken over 30 years for 42nd Street to return to the West End, we've had tours and regional productions but not a full scale revival.
I think both the original Broadway and West End productions of 42nd Street were overshadowed by the mega musicals of the 1980s, it ran 8 and a half years on Broadway and 4 and a half years in London which is still a great run for any show but I guess it seemed old fashioned at the time.

I don't think megamusicals were really a thing back then. At the time 42nd Street opened in the UK Cats had been running for just over 3 years, Starlight Express had been open a few months, and Phantom and Les Miserables had yet to appear. The producers of 42nd Street said that their production was a very expensive one that could take four to five months to recoup, so the several-year run it eventually achieved was a resounding success. It was only about a decade later that people started having expectations that shows would run and run until they became semi-permanent features of the landscape. |

Uk Productions toured 42nd Street a number of years back that was heavily based on the broadway production, i think at the time they claimed they used the broadway sets. looking at the new production design the drury lane production certainly looks the same set design, just bigger and newer. Wasn't the UK Productions just a cheap tour? The video with the split and multiple screens on the website are just hiding the paucity of cast!
This production demonstrates how to produce the show properly!
