42nd Street at Theatre Royal, Drury Lane

Ex cast members Lulu and Sam Murphy in the audience tonight. Lovely to see the cast members loving the show just as much as audience do.

I'm gonna head back next weekend I think. I wanna catch him as Julian, them I've seen everyone who has played that role!

Nice interview with Bonnie Langford on Steve Allen's programme on LBC yesterday. Mention of a tour of the show being undecided. Worth a listen, I believe it can be downloaded on the LBC website.

Tonight’s show, regular cast, but Matthew Goodgame on as Julian, Philip Bertilio as Pat, Alyn Hawke as Mac/Doc/Thug.

Good second row seat with two seats in front free and the same behind. Audience was spread out but loud at the right times.

One of the front seats got taken in intermission by an elderly American gentleman. He had a good chat with the guy next to him about the war, how he saw a play when he was a teenager and had always wanted to get back to the theatre to see a big musical production. Just took him a while! Didn’t begrudge him blocking my view in the circumstances.

Two funnies:

Ashley getting his top hat on very lopsided during Dames.

Ryan Gover tripping as he went to fire his gun (but he did recover - and the gun made a sound tonight).

Only 11 male ensemble, but Philip joined them for Plenty of Money for the full 12. All the male ensemble were miced really quiet all night and sound quality was a bit mixed.

Zac Watts and Freddie Clements got to go up front a lot, Freddie even got the lines in the waiters scene.

Charity collection announcement by Bonnie after the bows and before the finale, which she said is happening all week. Ashley Day, Graeme Henderson and Christopher Howell took one of the three main exits each (side exits were unusually closed).

The lady next to me was taking to her friend and said she didn’t recognise a single song.

Fast standing ovation at the end of another great show!

They’re collecting all week for an actors charity, so he may well be attending to the door (and a large crowd around him) again.

That guy was sat next to me in the first half (he was already front row - just moved further along) - he kept moving around which got a bit annoying so I was grateful when he decided to move for the second act.

I did notice Ryan Gover tripping but thought he covered it well - and I also thought the male ensemble sounded tonight.  It was nice that Ashley Day has finally been miced properly so we can hear him now.  Every time I've seen him, it's been a struggle to hear him over the orchestra - no such problems tonight.

Really liked Bonnie Langford as Dorothy, thought her voice was lovely and she certainly acted the part well.  The age gap with Philip Bertioli's Pat looked odd (though tbf, only Steph Parry has looked a believable match for his Pat).  I think I've only seen Philip in his ensemble track once in all the times I've seen the show, as he always seems to be on for Pat when I see it.

Dan has conducted before, I really like him, he makes a pleasant change from Mr Misery Massey, who has absolutely no charisma or charm in his conducting at all. ( Am I alone in thinking this?) I think Jae is on hols, had last week off as well. Look forward to getting him back in the helm.

Thanks for advice I’m torn .... are rush tickets generally good ? If so at least I know I’ve got some it’s a 3 hour drive down and 240 mile round trip
Be gutted if I got there and didn’t have any decent seats but last time we’re only £15 row c stalls centre ... maybe that day I was just lucky 🍀

If you do the Rush at 10am (not 10:01am), I think you're almost certain to get good seats.

Have a look at the seat map at about 8am that day (on the official theatre website) and you'll be able to see what they have near the front to put into Rush. Bear in mind, they also keep some of those as Day Seats, some go out to agencies like Tkts and some to continue to sell at full price.

There is a chance you'll get offered Dress Circle. I sat there once and it was okay, but I prefer being near the front. I've also turned down attending when I haven't been keen on the seats, but I'm more flexible as to when I can attend.

If you need more than one seat together, you'll reduce your odds a bit, but I still think you'll be fine.

Thanks for the info will check in the morning I need 3 tickets last time I got 4 for the£15 each at box office but as you say it’s the uncertainty ... and as taking the mother in law and promised her this show I will try rush seats

I'm pretty sure you can get up to 4 rush tickets. I've never got 4 but I did get 3 once. Also with day seats you can get more than 2. Not sure if it's always the case or just when the queue isn't busy but someone in front of me got 4 day seats once.
