The casting managers seem to be lacking at the moment as still no news on the new cast for 42nd St as well as the old chess chestnut. Where can I buy a Chess chestnut? Would love one! How about a Chestnut Chess set?

If you need two tickets and you're collecting for a friend - does that mean you have to drink two coffees?
Will be interesting to see how these tickets compare with the discounted ones on TodayTix and from the box office. It's always good to see offers, but also rather a shame as it suggests they have spare capacity they need to fill on the day.
Is the Theatre Cafe one of those places where the tickets come with a song?

I went along on Saturday night too, show is in great shape still, boy Clare Halse is phenomenal! Still don't get why she doesn't get the final bow over Sheena Easton. My fourth time seeing the show.

It was explained to me that it has always been that way as 'Peggy' is classed as a juvenile lead, whereas 'Dorothy Brock' and 'Julian Marsh' are the senior leads.

Probably the same reason the group of oldies bow after the ensemble. One guy played the piano at the party, one hit Pat Denning, that was about the extent of their roles! Blink and you'll miss it.

Sadly not. I nipped in on Thursday, but Chris Howell was back. Lots of covers on that day though, including Norman Bowman on as Julian Marsh.
Show was in great shape and most of the male actors on. It looks much better than when they're short of guys and have to trim the big numbers.
Helped as well that I got a front row seat through TodayTix for the first time and had a well-behaved audience around me.

A little topic for opinion/discussion. Comments please. Most people in the business would agree you go to see the show regardless of who plays the role. However, when a show is clearly sold on "The Name" as 42nd is, and people buy the ticket to see the name on that basis, do you think people should be given the chance to switch to an alternative performance if "The name" Is off?

Be so so glad to not live in Germany. London is amazing when it comes to how often the first casts (be they "The Name" or not) are on and how clearly it's signposted when alternates do certain performances. Producers in Germany s**t on audiences' expectations or hopes when it comes to seeing particular performers. So... in short... I think London is doing just fine and you must ALWAYS expect that a performer can't go on due to illness. There were bigger dramas last year when Amber Riley and Glenn Close were off than whoever is considered The Name in 42nd Street. Who's The Name supposed to be anyway, Sheena Easton?

Yes, who exactly is “the name”?
As far as I was concerned, I was going to see 42nd Street.

Who's The Name supposed to be anyway, Sheena Easton? Is Sheena Easton really a name? If we go back to the first pages of this thread I think the general reaction when Baz announced her name was who?? Being a name in the 80s doesn't mean being a name now. She might be the reason why some over 50 book, but the show is being sold on the spectacular tap routine, not Sheena.

No. This would be absolutely disrespectful to the standby or an understudy. Also, how would it work? You arrive at the theatre and leave when you see the cast board? What if they do the announcement and say "Tonight the role of _____ will be performed by ____" and then you stand up and leave? No one is ever guaranteed seeing any particular performance. On the other hand, I wonder if Audra had a standby (either in US or UK) during Lady Day. Would they just cancel the show for that date?

42nd Street definitely isn't sold on Sheena or anybody else's name. Sure, I'm sure Sheena shifts a few tickets, but she's not on the posters and marketing in the same way as The Bodyguard/Lady Day/Sunset etc.
And yes, when Audra was sick they cancelled Lady Day!

I think that for Winter's Tale at the Garrick Kenneth Branagh had an understudy, but Dame J didn't. So no Judi no party.
