42nd Street at Theatre Royal, Drury Lane

Has anyone turned up an hour before the show and got day seats? I want to go again today but the rush tkts available are not that good and I can't get to theatre until about an hour before so wondered if anyone had any experience of getting last minute day seat for 42nd Street.

Thanks for the advice. I have always been lucky with today tix and ended up in row A stalls twice but was with a friend. Today just me and wonder if you are a single then they just slot you in where there us a gap. I'm only getting back of dress at the moment showing so might just pop along, smile nicely and see what I can get. If not I'll try tomorrow

As they say in East London it all went pear shaped. Arrived at my underground station to find trains had been suspended for some reason and everyone made to leave the station. About 500 people waiting for buses so decided this was a bad omen and came home.
Will definately try again in the next week or two as I need cheering up.

This was the first show ticket I bought for my London trip and before I joined this board. I had never in my life seen an advance ticket for sale to a show for £15 so I snapped it up. It was seat A1 and honestly I wouldn't want to sit there again. I'm all about being close to the action and prefer seats in the front stalls but this was really too close, I could touch the stage. It gave me neck strain and was just very uncomfortable.

The seat next to me A0 was worse though because that row of 4 seats is diagonal and A0 is closest to the stage with the least legroom. Then each seat from there on gets more legroom. With A3 having the most leg room and being farthest away from the stage. I was so close I was even able to see the microphones on their legs. Especially since this is such a grandiose spectacle I recommend sitting farther away so you can better take it all in.

The show itself I enjoyed very much and would like to see it again but then would go for day seats from TodayTix or from the theatre instead of buying seat A1 again.

So myself and my school friend found ourselves back at this last night. She had never seen it and it was my sixth time so any excuse.

Firstly, was thrilled to see what appeared to be a full house, and also walked by the theatre before the matinee to see the Balcony was open for that performance too, which even though its still holidays, is lovely to see as we enter the dire months of January and February. And they were enthusiastic too, with the ovation after the title number continuing well into the next scene!

Show as amazing as ever, some things never change. There were two understudies and one cast member who should of had an understudy that I'll mention:

CJ was on for Dorothy. Sheena si way stronger vocally and in the comedy, but CJ made the role her own and when not comparing, was fabulous, she looked great and sounded great.

Philip was on for Billy. He was fabulous and stronger than when I saw him in December. Stuart doesn't seem to have been on for a while, I hope he is OK? But if Philip were to take over, I'd be happy.

Tom was very ill and it was obvious. I love him as Julian and he seemed fine for Act 1 bar a bit pale and peaky in the face. But during Lullaby of Broadway he was audibly coughing throughout, and struggling to get through. His voice was hourse the rest of the show and at the 42nd Street (Reprise), he had a martini glass with water in so he could drink if needed as well as the scarf. I doubt he will be on today.

But just fabulous. Gets better everytime, especially that Ensemble!

I went the week before Christmas and Sheena was on, but I assumed she would take the Christmas off and spend it with family or go to the States or something. Stuart hasn't been on since early December I don't think, I believe the past two times I have been it has been Philip? 

I spoke to Clare a few months back at stage door and she said that it was a large cast change, with some swapping around so I suspect there will be some Swings becoming Ensemble and Ensemble becoming Supporting Cast. I'm calling it now, I think Philip will be bumped up to lead Billy come cast change.

When exactly is the cast change happening? Are there any rumours or firm news about new cast?

Damn I'm away! Do we know if Clare is staying?

Good! That must mean its atleast 3 years until Frozen arrives then.

danieljohnson14 you were right, Tom was off today. I always find it silly when actors go on when they really shouldn't, I've seen it happen a few times and it makes no sense. They aren't giving the audience the performance they could have and then what's the point in going to work and spreading the germs all over the place. (I'm someone who probably drags myself to work when I should stay at home but people aren't paying to see me work).

My mum was in London today and since I love the show I wanted her to see it. Luckily it was the perfect show with Norman as Julian, CJ as Dorothy and Philip as Billy. I think those three are my favourite combination for those three characters and I felt lucky to be seeing them. Funnily I didn't even read the full cast board before going in, just glanced and saw that Philip was Billy and then had a surprise when Norman walked on as Julian (I didn't go on the forum this morning, so knew nothing of Tom's illness).

I think this afternoon was the first show that I've seen that has had every single male ensemble member and swing on. I was very confused at the start because I spotted the three swings and then played the "try and work out who is off" game. I ended up discovering that no one was off! We had Philip and Sam covering Billy and Pat, then the other ten ensemble and 3 swings. I figured out in the end that Josh Andrews was covering a female track. Luckily he wasn't made to do all their numbers and they used him cleverly in places where it was easy to use him to bulk up the numbers. Opening number, Lullaby, Getting Out of Town, Finale,... those kinds of numbers. It was a shame they didn't let him join the first curtain call but still had him in the finale. I guess he was in the final curtain call but I didn't spot him. There were a couple of moments though where he was in a row of girls and to me he stood out for being there but I'm sure to most they'd have been oblivious. The girls did seem depleted though and in "Shuffle Off to Buffalo" there was a compartment in the train with only one girl, there was a coin less at the start of "We're in the Money". Why am I constantly counting? Still find it really hard to count the number of female ensemble members though.
