Won a pair of tickets to this on a raffle tonight...so looks like I'm gonna have to go along and see what the fuss is all about! *prays I won't hate it as much as I'm expecting to* As I say, get drunk before you go, thats what made me at least find it fun! Unfortunately a gang of women of a certain age got plastered when I went and I had them standing throughout (they were front gallery, nobody behind could see a thing. They didn't care), singing, waving (and spilling) drinks over people, kicking off with fellow audience members who were annoyed with their behaviour and then, my personal favourite, having a shouting match with an usher during my favourite song, Billie Jean. I'd never go to another jukebox musical like this on tour in my local theatre again! Audience members actually walked out because of the behaviour of this minority. One of my worst evenings ever in a theatre.

Look on the bright side. It helps Nimax to meet its loan repayments every month.
Perhaps one day, the ceiling of the Apollo will be repaired.

Really is a nightmare.... I know for Nica et al. this makes them good money, but surely they know it is 'bad' theatre, and that based on the success of shows that have gone in their other smaller theatres not every show is going to be a failure.

I've just received an email from WhatsOnStage promoting this as "Now 15th longest running musical". There comes a point where a claim like that becomes counterproductive. Imagine "Voted Britain's 15th favourite washing up liquid", for example.

To think one of the last things I saw in the Lyric was the spellbinding Death of a Salesman with Brian Dennehy and Clare Higgins and now it's constant host to this pile of bilge.

I would love to know how this sells - how often certain levels are closed etc. But that would mean someone would have to go to find out and I doubt anyone here would be willing (and Iβm certainly not volunteering)

Is it just me who thinks that advertising this as a musical is grossly misleading? It's a concert. A glorified tribute show. Their own advert on this email I got from W*S today says the same: So really it should be the 15th longest-running piece of theatre that contains a significant amount of music. Or maybe 16th because then we'd have to include Stomp too. Anyone who wants to visit the Lyric and can't bear to sit through this *insert descriptive word of your choice*, the Showstoppers do their improvised musical there one Monday a month

I'm thinking aloud, so no personal attacks please, but why is it wrong for Parsley to be a snob, but fine for everyone else, including criticizing theatregoers who like different things to the things we like? It does seem slightly hypocritical.

People mock this
It has some of the longest lines of people waiting to get in
Is regularly close to full
And has made the investors
A small profit

Oh wow, the article describes his anger worse than I expected.
I've never seen Thriller Live and will never see it. I remember when Adrian Grant was touting it around years and years ago and only the Michael Jackson fan community really knew about it - probably close to 2003/04. It sounded awful even then and no better than some of those dreadful impersonators. I'm such a huge fan, yes I was part of those crazy mobs you'd see on TV. I've seen tribute acts to a lot of my favourite singers and bands and MJ is really the only one that nobody can even remotely pin down, so a stage musical tribute seems like the worst idea. I wouldn't be able to si through it either.
I was once intrigued but maybe the week before MJ died, a friend and I went to West End Live and saw their performance. My friend could dance and do those moves better than they could (she is a performer but has never really made it her focus).

I saw it when it toured a few years ago and came to Northampton. I enjoyed it more than I thought I would but it's totally just a tribute show, it doesn't deserve to have the word 'musical' associated with it. It's an entertaining concert.
